Life can be hard. Changes, whether thrust upon us or of our own making, can lead to anxiety, depression, and feeling isolated. Perhaps your relationship that was once fulfilling now feels lifeless. That meaningful career you chose has become stalled. Your excitement of becoming an adult and living on your own is now daunting and overwhelming. An illness or death have thrown your calm life into chaos. An act of violence or trauma leave you feeling afraid and isolated. My life’s work has been coming alongside people like you, as they cope with and grow from various life challenges.

I am trained in EMDR, ERP, and ACT which I use to guide treatment planning.
Does life feel hard right now? Maybe you are feeling overwhelmed, struggling with relationships, or wondering why you seem to worry about every little thing. If this sounds familiar, I can help you. I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, and trauma. Often these daily struggles are connected to deeper fears and wounds that we can learn to heal. I want to help live a full life without pretending to be ok, but truly feeling ok.

I enjoy drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Poly-Vagal Theory, and other somatic (body-oriented) approaches.
Life stress can often pile up to a point where we feel we cannot handle it on our own. This stress can look like wounds from past experiences, ongoing trauma, or maybe feeling like there is too much to handle on your plate. I hope to partner with you to create a comfortable and therapeutic space, so you can begin to process some of the challenges that life throws our way. I am passionate about assisting adolescents and adults to make positive change in their lives, wherever they are at in their journey towards growth.

My main therapeutic approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) but will also employ other modalities like narrative therapy, person-centered therapy, and others when necessary.
I believe people come to counseling to seek a different, or better, way of approaching the challenges that life brings. You believe you can be a better version of yourself. You feel there’s a better way to approach your past and future so you can more fully experience the present. I am here to help you dive into that. Together, we can learn to embrace all the experiences that shape you. We can set you on the path to living a fulfilling and satisfying life that moves you towards your values.

Working together you will find lack of judgement, complete acceptance, fresh perspectives and alternative points-of-view.
NOW with offices in the DTC and Ft. Collins. I hear clients say they feel "stuck", "unsure", "confused", "anxious" and/or "afraid". Many of them don’t feel very good about themselves. This can cause problems in their relationships, on their job, not feeling motivated or becoming unable to take joy in everyday activities. My clients typically want to make it through a day without anxiety, to not feel so sad everyday and to feel confident! I understand these experiences and have had many of them in my past. With an excellent therapist and fantastic coaches along the way, I’ve learned, healed and grown. And you can to!

When working with clients, I invite them into their own personal healing space where anything is possible. Finding the freedom to explore in a safe space with a counselor who is dedicated to building a strong therapeutic relationship, helps create the necessary ingredients to healing. I also, understand, that people are multifaceted as is the world we live which is why I bring a multicultural and social justice perspective into the work. My commitment to each client is evident through the journey we take together. For athletes wanting performance improvement, my approach combines evidence based work and the somatic perspective.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
