I specialize in using CBT, mindfulness and acceptance-based approaches, and also incorporate data and technology in therapy to capture what's happening for you in the moment and help make meaningful changes outside of the therapy room.
Welcome to my practice! Have you been feeling like anxiety, low mood and motivation have been getting you stuck and preventing you from living the life you want to? Anxiety is a normal and important feeling that we developed to protect us from harm. If you are experiencing overwhelming levels of anxiety though, it can prevent you from doing things you care about, disrupt your social life and cause intense distress. Similarly, if you suffer from very low mood and motivation, it might seem impossible to engage in activities you previously cared about.

Mindfulness, gratitude, compassion, and acceptance are the foundation of my therapeutic practice.
Therapy is your journey. If you invite me to walk along beside you, I will offer to you my best critical thinking, understanding, compassion and theoretical knowledge based on 20 years of working in this field. I am adept at pointing out signposts, synchronicities, other paths and directions that you may not have noticed along the way. Sometimes we need another set of eyes to tell us when we are just about to step in something gooey and stinky. And other times we need help getting it off the bottoms of our shoes so that we can continue onward.

Primarily employing Acceptance & Commitment therapy (ACT), ERP, EMDR, and DBT/CBT, I help people find their footing and get moving again.
Do you feel like you're continually caught in a struggle with intrusive thoughts or spiraling worry? Do you suspect that you've been struggling with OCD but you've never gotten properly diagnosed or treated? If you've spent years talking about your problems, but still feel trapped in the same hole; or you want to change, but you're not sure how, you are headed in the right direction! I know how frustrating, defeating and draining these battles can be, and I'm here to help.

As a therapist, I promote self-compassion and self-acceptance in my practice.
I work with clients who are experiencing shame, guilt, anxiety, resurfaced trauma, relationship challenges, and family issues. I approach this work by getting curious about how your thoughts, feelings, and lived experience impact the way you are thinking about yourself and your values, and what may be keeping you stuck in patterns you are hoping to shift. We might be a good fit if you want to explore your past, open up to your present, and create a future that feels meaningful.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
