Myself and other therapists in my practice have extensive experience with cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure and response prevention, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and other empirically validated treatments for mood and anxiety disorders.
Myself and my colleagues at the California Psychology Center specialize in therapy for obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and depression. We help with these difficulties by customizing strategies supported by the strongest research evidence to each unique individual. We work with clients in a warm, collaborative manner to help our clients better understand themselves, learn new skills, and overcome life’s struggles in a manner consistent with their values and goals. Our practice is aimed at both alleviating psychological distress, as well as bolstering strengths and a sense of personal fulfillment.

I am active and responsive throughout our sessions but always strive to uphold a space of calm and acceptance.
Do you feel empty inside, unfulfilled in your relationships and long for a greater sense of meaning and purpose? Many of us lose touch with ourselves as we take on different life roles, try to conform to what we believe we "should" be or are faced with major stressors. It is this inner disconnection that can lead to symptoms like anxiety and depression. I specialize in helping adults, college students and adolescents struggling with issues around sense of self and identity. I also support parents and teens stay connected during the trials of adolescence, and help parents better understand and care for their special needs child.

I individualize treatment, weaving Relational, Jungian, and Expressive Arts Therapy with CBT, DBT and ACT based on your needs.
I am here to tell you, you are not broken, even if your mind may tell you so. When we are anxious or in despair, we can’t think straight or engage our usual survival strategies. It can impact our health, body, emotions, relationships, perception of self and reality. We can't make sense of the distorted thoughts alone. We need a therapist to help guide us. I often help young women who are feeling shy, anxious, obsessive, depressed, struggling with perfectionism or life transitions. I enjoy helping girls and women achieve developmentally appropriate social-emotional, verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

I'm a Psychologist with an Integrative perspective, comfortable working with a variety of types of people and problems from a variety of perspectives. It is as important to be able to work towards change in the present, as it is to revisit and understand how one's developmental history may be influencing present issues or repeating patterns. I have found truths in many theoretical approaches, and as much from studies outside of Psychology as within it.

I am passionate about helping couples craft deeply nourishing and caring relationships. In our meetings we learn the skills required for loving another person well: good communication, problem solving and repair. We explore what it means for each person to feel loved and cared for and work toward a dance that honors each members unique preferences. I also help couples have important conversations about crafting a mutually satisfying shared vision of what a meaningful life is as romantic partners, parents and community members. We work on healing from painful past ruptures such as infidelity, substance use and frequent fighting.

Are you feeling stuck in the same type of relationships, arguments, or habits? When you feel stuck, it can be helpful to talk with someone to consider a fresh perspective. Previous ways of facing obstacles in your life may not be working and you might want to learn new ways to cope, or you may need extra support while going through a challenging experience. Typically, I help clients with stress, depression, worries/anxiety, life transitions, professional/sport/academic performance, and substance abuse. I enjoy working with people who are interested in self-growth and are curious about themselves and others.

The human spirit is stronger than anything that can happen to it. -C.C. Scott. We all go through challenges in life, and at times they can seem bigger than our ability to manage. In therapy, we can work together to cultivate the life you want through reducing the grip of depression, anxiety, and stress; healing from grief, loss, past abuse or trauma; regulating your nervous system; developing effective coping skills; improving relationships and communication; and building on your personal strengths. I want to help you to engage with life more fully and to support you in pursuing what you value most.

Whether you've been in therapy before, or this will be your first time; it is important to feel safe and comfortable enough to talk about things that are causing you distress. Are you experiencing life changes, decisions, challenges, trauma, illness, or disabilities? Are you looking for a way to cope with anxiety or depression?  Do you have nightmares or trouble sleeping?  Maybe you have experienced the loss of someone close to you, or a job, or a beloved pet.  Or you are just plain stressed out.  All the time. Talk can help, but so can non-verbal expressive therapies, in a non-threatening, non-judgmental environment.

Everyone deserves to feel like themselves. Sometimes life gets ahead of us and we can feel lost, stuck and/or disconnected. It can be distressing and cause suffering. Maybe it is a major life event or role change, a spiraling negative thought pattern, mounting academic or career pressure, or parenting or relationship challenges. Whatever the reason, it takes courage to seek help and effort to imagine change and improvement. You have taken the first step. Your next steps will be joined by a therapist who will treat you with respect and work diligently to address your presenting problem.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
