Each client has unique preferences on how they "take in" information and how they "act" on information.
You're taking a great first step! Thanks for learning a little more about me! Choosing a counselor is important. You'll find me fully engaged and focused on you, with the intention to offer compassion, yet also a plan and strategy to move forward. Dealing with sudden change, ongoing stress, difficult relationships, unresolved trauma or building skills for career advancement can require help. I am respectful of your investment and courage to take this step. Today you can start a happier and more peaceful daily life.

My approach is based in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
People often ask ‘How can I benefit from therapy?’ Research has found substantial benefits that go beyond merely surviving in crisis to completely enriching your life. Dr. Levant, a cofounder for the Society of Psychological Study of Men and Masculinity, found that ‘men are starting to realize that talking about their feelings can help them live happier, healthier lives.’ Our mental health impacts our energy levels, productivity, adapting to life changes, how we relate to those around us, and how our physical appearance is perceived. Perhaps most importantly, mental health can significantly impact overall health.

Improving the quality of your life begins with a simple act of reaching out.
Our world often stigmatizes needing support, but let's face it: no one gets anywhere without help! Change and growth come with challenges, and having the support of a genuine and compassionate therapist can make a positive difference. Whether you are experiencing a significant personal development, struggling to relate to others, or feeling stuck and looking for a change for the better, reaching out to someone trained to help is a critical step towards finding a way to live more authentically. As a therapist, I work with individuals & couples to create a space to process experiences and find a path forward to greater well-being.

I utilize Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients build skills and make changes in their life that help them accomplish their goals.
Starting therapy is an important decision, and one that we're often making when we're struggling the most. I make this process feel as safe and comfortable as possible by helping you understand what to expect, collaboratively setting treatment goals, and making sure that we're moving at a pace that feels manageable to you. I believe my clients intuitively know what is most important to them. Life sometimes makes it hard for us to keep this focus or understand what we need. When you're caught in an unhealthy cycle or feel disconnected from the people and things you value, I will support you as you build the life you want to live.

Depending on our goals, I typically incorporate trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy, exposure and response prevention (ERP) therapy, and/or EMDR (although I find it less effective online).
I love working with teenagers, college students and young adults ages 13-30. I most enjoy working with anxiety disorders (including OCD, phobias, and panic disorder), the effects of trauma, as well as LGBTQ clients. The majority of my training as a therapist has been in treating trauma, OCD and generalized anxiety. I am also a native Spanish speaker and love working with immigrant clients. Feel free to email with any questions about my experience.

We often struggle because we exceed our capacity to cope, which can lead to uninformed, rash decisions, or the inability to act.
Available remotely in: AL, AZ, AR, CT, DE, D.C., GA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, ME, MD, MN, NE, NV, NH, NJ, NC, OH, OK, PA, RI, TN, TX, UT, VA, WA, WV, WI. I was introduced to psychology while going through a difficult time as a young college student and seeking the help of a therapist. The experience taught me so much about myself and how to manage my emotions during difficult times that I decided to learn more about the field. One intro to psychology class turned into two more, and then just 12 short years later (with a few twists and turns along the way) I completed my PhD in counseling psychology!

Tension. Fights. Frustrations. No fun. This is what your relationship feels like now. What once felt like an easy partnership now is on the edge of uncertainty. Perhaps it's the constant arguments over trivial matters or the growing distance between intimate moments. Maybe your relationship has too much silence and piles of resentments are building. It's always something: the kids; the house; the chores; extended family. But as hard as you two try, you can't seem to "get back to each other." Whatever the struggle, the decision to seek couples counseling arises from a shared acknowledgment that something important has been lost.

Most of my clients come for therapy and stay for the coaching support. My "typical" or ideal client is often someone that feels stuck or overwhelmed. Sometimes these are feelings of anxiety or unmanageable stress. My clients are self-sufficient, high-functioning, and in many cases, people pleasers. Clients that want more out of life and don't know where to start. I specialize in anxiety disorders and absolutely love watching people begin to live the life they desire! Aside from traditional therapy, I offer coaching services. I'm passionate about helping others achieve their health and wellness goals. I hope we can work together!

Change takes time and hard work, and frequently also requires compassion, perspectives, and ideas from outside our own minds. Therapy is one way to help make the changes you want in your life. Using compassion-focused therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused models, I help adolescents and adults practice ways to move away from self-defeating behaviors into more peace.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
