I can help you begin the journey of thinking differently about yourself, accepting your imperfections, while also challenging behaviors that arise out of shame rather than acceptance and love.
Are you overly critical? Do you always blame yourself, even for the smallest mistakes? Are you really hard on yourself, saying things under your breath to yourself that would you never utter to another person, things like, ‘you’re stupid, what wrong with you? Professionally, it might sound like, “you’ll never be successful” or maybe you think to yourself, ‘you’re such a fraud, you have everyone fooled." Do you ever should yourself all over the place, “I should have done something different, that was so stupid.’ Sometimes the mirror reveals the harshest critic.

I love working with individuals, couples and families using a variety of evidence based and trauma informed approaches such as CBT, MI, and ACT to help treat anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment difficulties, addiction, and other daily struggles.
I have a strong passion for working with individuals who deal with daily anxiety, panic attacks, and other symptoms associated with severe anxiety. I enjoy working with all ages but have a special place in my heart for working with teenagers and young adults. I look at the whole person and not just the current issues at play. I like to collaborate with my clients to tailor an approach that works for them, and am always open to feedback. I believe that every client has it in themselves to make a change, but sometimes needs someone to help teach them how to use the skills that they already have.

I believe strongly in helping people to cultivate a space in which they can more readily view themselves and their life with self-compassion and self-acceptance.
As a husband, father, and counselor, I understand the power of seeking and finding clarity within oneself, and the transformative impact that this can have upon the meaningful relationships that exist within one’s life. I deeply value the counseling relationship, and I see this as the foundation through which positive change and personal growth can take place and flourish. I am particularly passionate about working with people who are struggling with issues pertaining to relationships, life transitions, anxiety, and self-esteem. I seek to meet people at whatever place they find themselves on their life's journey.

My goal is to provide a supportive, safe, and nonjudgmental space for individuals to explore themselves and the world around them and work together to find understanding, acceptance, and hope.
I enjoy working with individuals who are experiencing some of the most challenging transitions of their lives. This might look like recovering after trauma, deconstructing from religion, working through grief and loss, navigating life after divorce, blending families, receiving a painful diagnosis, or opening up to your true gender and/or sexual identity. We are told that "life is hard", and often we are led to feel that our challenges of living are ours to carry alone. I am here to help carry the weight and together find ways to lighten the burden and strengthen yourself.

Are you looking for someone to help you with your anxiety, depression or mood disorder? I see individuals, adolescents and couples. I take an evidence based approach to therapy combining Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I want to help you determine what you’re doing that already works and support you as you work towards your own goals. Most people see an alleviation of symptoms within a few months of seeing me.

As an adult trying to navigate this world, you often find yourself wondering why everyone else seems to have it all figured out while you are struggling. Maybe you can't connect with your partner or you feel labeled by your family and are struggling to find who YOU really are. You hear advice from all different directions and have tried so many different things and nothing seems to be working. You feel defeated- and now it has become a cycle that is just getting worse. Maybe you can't sleep well or you're feeling disconnected. Imagine waking up tomorrow and feeling like you had a better sense of direction. What would that feel like?

Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions, I am here to help you rediscover the goodness inside of you. I work with women and couples to help them get to know the important parts of themselves and how those parts might be making it difficult for them to be their truest selves.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
