I pull from person centered, cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral and acceptance and commitment theories.
Many people can be too hard and not kind enough to themselves. Life is difficult enough, and not being on their own side through their struggles makes it even more so. Whether you’re new to therapy or have some experience with it, starting with a new therapist can be overwhelming. I invite you to a warm, inviting space where you are able to show your full self. I tend to use a holistic and integrative approach. Your sessions are your time and I will meet you where you’re at while providing a therapist viewpoint.

Rooted in attachment science, I love integrating various therapeutic approaches (EFT, ACT, IFS, CBT, & Narrative) depending on what each client needs.
Life can be incredibly painful. We can find ourselves feeling stuck, confused, lonely, anxious, despairing, or lost. We want to make sense of our past & present circumstances, map out a path forward, all in a way that feels true to our values and honors the pain we experience. My clients often struggle with issues like depression & anxiety, grief & loss, trauma & abuse, identity & meaning formation, sexuality & pornography, spiritual distress & relationship strife. Whether highly motivated or exhausted and on the verge of giving up, I am honored to meet each client where they are and walk with them step by step toward change.

I use primarily person-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and acceptance-commitment therapy with individuals.
Life doesn't always go how we think it should. We face difficulties - maybe with a spouse or co-worker, maybe within ourselves. I strive to create a safe and warm place to help you though challenges, such as anxiety, anger management, grief, depression, communication skills, low self-esteem, life transition, relationship issues, and spiritual/religious questions. Having been married for 15 years, I enjoy helping married couples to find a healthy relationship. Combining compassion and directness, I work with you to explore the difficulties and change them. I enjoy integrating Christian faith and counseling, if desired by the client.

I believe we all have the potential to grow through challenges. Rather than living in distress, we can find ways to ease through the difficulties of life. Through my work with cancer patients, I developed a therapeutic framework based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients with various issues move from distress toward peace. In addition, I understand that one size does not fit all, so I use an integrative approach that draws from several disciplines.

I approach counseling from a person-centered (you come first) and trauma-informed (everyone experiences some form of trauma) lens and utilize evidence-based (tried & tested) therapies such as Internal Family Systems, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
You deserve to heal! You are worthy of love, support, and the freedom found in healing. Whether you struggle with anxiety, depression, unresolved trauma, or relational wounds there is hope. The storm won’t last always and I am here to help navigate you through it. We'll work together to: identify wounds and experiences that may be keeping you stuck or burdening you; heal the areas that may seem fractured by teaching you new skills and coping techniques; and celebrate accomplishing goals, becoming a more authentic you, and achieving freedom.

Do you ever feel stressed or overwhelmed by others' expectations? Do you sometimes struggle to feel fully engaged with life? Battling with an addiction or eating disorder is a painful process that is driven by secrecy and control. My goal is to help break down these walls and bring what hides in the darkness into the light in a nonjudgmental, caring, and compassionate manner so you can begin to see a different way of living. I truly believe only when you feel enough support and safety are you able to begin making choices for health and recovery.

I work with individuals dealing with life transitions, medical related issues, mood and affective disorders, and marriage, parenting or family issues. I use a narrative and solution focused approach to collaboratively work with clients to identify successful solutions to problems and how these strengths can be implemented in future situations. I utilize empirically supported techniques that focus on the ways in which individuals think about and respond to events. These interventions allow clients to restructure their thinking, process events and modify behaviors in more adaptive ways.

A person's natural tendency is to gravitate toward health and wholeness. Sometimes when trying to move toward goals and the most authentic expression of self, we get stuck by internal or external barriers. I enjoy working with clients who are willing to step into vulnerability even when it's scary and who are open to exploring creative approaches to healing. With curiosity, you can discover meaning within emotional pain and grow beyond limits you might have internalized.

Waitlist for new clients
I have a passion for working with clients from many diverse backgrounds. I grew up in a small town where mental health awareness was not always present and children, like myself, who were going through their own unique and individual challenges did not always have support or an outlet for expressing their emotions. I aim to work with clients who are searching for this same type of support environment and positive outcomes through making plans for their growth. This is in connection with using research-based mental/emotional health strategies to achieve goals and create authentic and personal changes in their lives.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
