My work incorporates Feminist, Relational-Cultural, ACT, and person-centered modalities.
Are you feeling overwhelmed or unheard in your relationships? Do you struggle to speak up for yourself or hold boundaries because prioritizing your needs has never been on the table? Do you struggle with feelings of guilt even when you haven't done anything wrong? Do you battle with body image/diet culture? Are you contemplating a life that looks different than the one you are currently living, but don't know where to begin or even if you should? A great deal of the clients I see are struggling with these things and hoping to break cycles and forge a new path for themselves with the help of someone who will walk alongside them.

Pain is an inevitable part of the human condition. You don't have to go through this pain alone, though. Whatever pain it may be, I enjoy helping people work through and transform their pain into something more manageable. I enjoy working with individuals grieving a variety of losses: loss of a loved one, loss of a relationship, loss of a pet, loss of an aspiration, etc. No loss is insignificant. Although I cannot take away your pain I can promise to do my best to support you through this difficult time in your life.

Everyday life often brings about many joys but also presents us with many obstacles, challenges, and disappointments that sometimes feel unbearable and lead us feeling overwhelmed, sad, and hopeless. The way we think and process these events lead to how we feel about ourselves in relation to the world. I use a cognitive behavioral approach to treat disorders related to anxiety, depression, grief, anger, obsessions, and compulsions. I assist individuals with developing the tools and skills necessary to make cognitive and behavioral changes that can open doors of opportunity for change, growth and personal fulfillment.

Do you ever find yourself saying, “Anxiety seems to control my life” and It seems like the weight of past traumas is too much to bear? Coping with distress can feel like an uphill battle. It's the sleepless nights spent worrying, the constant feeling of unease, and the haunting memories that linger. You may be longing for a way to regain control, to step out from the shadows of past traumas, and to find inner peace. You find yourself saying something has to change, but you’re just not sure what to do to overcome these feelings.

I am a clinical psychologist and primarily work with people experiencing difficulties in the areas of anxiety, relationship concerns, family issues, obsessive-compulsive disorder, depression and life transitions. While each client is different, I generally view the circumstances that bring an individual into therapy as often due to a combination of factors, such as current life stressors, biological influences, and the impact of family & other important relationships.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
