Alyssa prioritizes your individual needs and strengths, & encourages growth & change in a safe, supportive, & engaged environment. She works to provide opportunities for each person to gain insight, comfort, & self-worth in sessions, & encourages each individual & family to be in control of their therapeutic work, as well as their goals. Alyssa specialises in working with rerefugees, immigrants, human trafficking survivors, and survivors of torture, as well as anyone struggling with experiences of sexual assault, domestic violence and child sexual abuse, relationship conflict, mood disorders, anxiety, and PTSD.
Building on each person's own skills and strengths is a key component of Alyssa's practice. Supporting individuals and families who are struggling with relationships, life transitions, and difficult pasts is what ABC'd Therapy is skilled at doing. Alyssa provides individualised sessions to and trusts in each person's ability to grow and prosper.
Alyssa has an extensive history of work with trauma, individuals & families with unique histories & needs, & is trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches (including EMDR) to best meet the needs of all clients. Youth of Immigrant/Refugee Families

For young people growing up in Iowa with parents from various cultural and/or linguistic backgrounds. Snacks provided. Building community with peers who understand some of the difficulties in trying to balance a culture and/or language at home that does not match with your school and work experiences outside your home. This group's primary goal is to support young people between the ages of 11 and 19 in identifying concerns, struggles, successes, strengths and goals for themselves and for their own role in their families and in the world around them, fostering positive relationships with others who have shared experiences.

This group specifically supports interpreters in Iowa who are supporting refugee and immigrant communities. The group is focused on building community support with peer professionals who are also interpreters. Format in the group is informal, with snacks, coffee and tea provided, and a safe space to process the successes and struggles of being a community interpreter. The group is confidential, driven by interpreters who are attending, and provides opportunities for networking, relationship building, and supportive interventions.
