Hi there, my name is Jennifer, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) based in Temecula, California. I work with young adults via telehealth, specializing in anxiety, depression and life transitions using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness-based approaches. I believe authenticity and genuine connection are equally as important in the therapeutic process as the modalities that we use.

Every child is unique. To help children overcome social, emotional, behavioral, developmental, and/or academic challenges, we can't be preoccupied with simply signing labels. Rather, we need to identify a child's individual strengths as well as their weaknesses in order to design effective strategies that suit their needs. We work closely with parents, schools, and other professionals to establish a comprehensive picture of the whole child. It's from this highly individualized approach along with the collaboration with those that know the child/teen well, that we are able to create the most significant and dramatic change!

The Avery Centre has experienced and compassionate therapists ready to help children and adults suffering from trauma, grief, loss, and/or PTSD. After a crisis, loss, or trauma, each individual has their own way of grieving, and coping. Sadness, guilt, shock, anger, frustration, rage, and feelings of helplessness may occur. The healing process may begin with the passage of time and the support of loved ones; however, professional help may be needed for support during the initial shock of the situation and later on while experiencing different stages of the grief cycle. The Avery Centre was created to provide clients with support, guidance, understanding, and empathy during these most difficult times.

You are not one to follow the crowd, you're kinky and like to engage in BDSM. Maybe your relationships are consensually non-monogamous or poly. You are a beautiful member of the LGBTQ+ Community, or maybe you're a boss and engage in sex work. Despite your care free spirit, you still get that nagging from your past hurts, that prevents you from being truly free, you shame yourself, unsure how to embrace and love yourself and struggle to connect not only with yourself, but others. I look forward to helping you truly reach your full potential and live your life on your terms, not caring what anybody has to say.

Most people benefit from having a trusted and trained professional to confide in and collaborate with - to make changes, deal with emotional pain, and search for understanding and meaning. Humans are complex beings and life is full of challenges. We all create "protective measures" to help us cope with difficulties we have encountered. Unconscious relational patterns, expectations, and beliefs about ourselves and others develop. Unfortunately, many of these ways of being interfere with creating satisfying lives and relationships. Our habituated patterns can be constricting, or lead to troubling behaviors or symptoms.

Many of my clients come to me after having spent a number of years in traditional talk therapy, feeling there is something deeper, within their body, that needs attention and healing. They recognize that trauma is stored in their body and can only be healed with the body in mind. Symptoms might include unrelenting anxiety, chronic pain or tension patterns, numbness, dissociation, and/or emotional, behavioral, or physiological patterns that continue to show up in spite of the cognitive insights and shifts that have occurred with the help of past therapy.

A client who would find my approach helpful will be looking for a mix of practical skills to deal with symptoms, better understanding of themselves, and to explore what they want from life in general. My style of therapy is adaptive. For some, a firm guiding hand creates safety and a sense of direction. For others, the opportunity to take the reigns opens up new possibilities. Let's figure out what works best for you. I believe therapy should focus both on symptom relief, and on "what's next?" Starting to feel better creates an opportunity, and I want to help you take hold and run with it!

I treat adults as well as adolescents and children, most frequently through individual therapy. I also work with couples. I work with people with a wide range of problems and especially enjoy working with people experiencing anxiety in relationships or at work . I also enjoy working with people who are unhappy and don't know why, and people who are repeating self-defeating patterns they feel unable to change. Meeting with a well-trained and experienced therapist can be a powerful and effective way of strengthening one's confidence and developing a personal sense of control over one's life.

“At times, life seems like a deep-dark hole, but really it’s a tunnel, and if we walk together, we’ll reach one end or the other.” Fr. G. Boyle, Homeboy Industries. We live in challenging times; it may help to talk with someone to try and make sense of it all. I’ve experienced the positive effects of having a trained professional in my corner. My hope is to pay that forward and support you in reconnecting to your genuine strengths. I believe each person has the key to their own wellness and success. So ask yourself, if life could be different tomorrow, what would it look like?

Harmony. When you think of harmony, one might picture different things coming together that work so well simultaneously and you feel a sense of peace. When things aren’t working well together, there is a clash or dissonance, causing more stress and more problems. I came across a video on Instagram from Nedra Glover Tawwab (nedratawwab) where she talked about the difference between balance and harmony. You see, my ultimate goal in life was to achieve balance when in fact what I was envisioning was harmony. “Harmony is getting things to flow in your life in a cohesive way. Balance is getting everything to be equal."

You're tired. You want to let go of the past, the perfectionism, the people-pleasing. You want freedom from toxic relationships, from energy & expectations that no longer serve you. You want to enjoy your life in the here and now but struggle under the weight of anxiety & familial pressure. If this resonates it's likely you experienced dysfunctional or even abusive family dynamics growing up and are still in the process of healing. You deserve to live a life free from the burden of trauma: to heal, build healthy relationships, break generational patterns, improve self-esteem, establish clear boundaries, & love the life you've built.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in California?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
