You ever get the feeling that trying to find purpose in the middle of all of this chaos is a little too hard?! Well, that is why I do what I do. I work to create an open and comfortable place where clients can work through their struggles to better their lives and heal relationships. The only goal is helping you move forward with fulfillment and joy. My personal worldview comes from following Jesus, but my goal is to be with you as you work through life whatever your background, faith, or life story is. My desire is to walk with people through hard times. We all go through them and sometimes we just need a hand.

Do you find yourself struggling in important relationships? Are you stuck in unwanted push-and-pull patterns with your partner or closest friends? Relationships are central to life, yet they can feel painful and confusing. Attachment strategies influence how we see ourselves and others and can impact most areas of life. The paradox of attachment trauma is that relational wounds create a profound longing for connection, but intimacy feels perplexing and risky. It is hard to think and act optimally when one’s intrinsic desires for belonging, safety, and love are unmet.

So much is happening in our world. Things are shifting and changing at an unprecedented pace. The news headlines can be so overwhelming that you may find yourself seeking comfort in your familiar vices, watching endless videos on your phone or eating or drinking too much. Maybe some tough things are happening in your personal life too. The worst part is the feeling that you are powerless to change things. It feels like you are being catapulted into a world that is unfamiliar and it's uncertain how things will turn out. Meanwhile, there are your responsibilities. They never let up, no matter how overwhelmed you may be feeling.

I view the therapy process like an ocean and the therapeutic relationship that we build is the boat that allows us to explore. You are at the helm and direct what we explore; the stronger our relationship the more exploring we can do. I'm there as your support to help you navigate what challenges you are facing and discover lost treasures. Eventually we will part ways and I hope we are are both better versions or ourselves.

It was during this time I fell in-love with the mind-body connection, and the need to address both in order to heal. This passion fueled my return to education to obtain a mental health degree.

I recently opened an in-person office in Portland, Oregon; continuing to take new and ongoing virtual patients in Washington. Louisiana, and throughout Oregon. I believe that healing can happen through the process of empathic and supportive counseling. I work with mood issues, personality disorders, trauma, grief, substance use and more. I utilize a culturally sensitive and holistic psychodynamic style of therapy. This approach encourages development in all areas of life, and pays special attention to unconscious factors, childhood upbringing, trauma, and cultural identity (race, religion, sexuality, gender, disability, etc).

Do you or your child often feel misunderstood, or like you have to work harder than everyone else? Maybe big emotions come on fast, things feel overwhelming often, or everyday expectations somehow feel harder to meet. For kids and teens, this can show up as shutdown, outbursts, or constant overwhelm. For young adults, it often looks like anxiety, burnout, or feeling stuck. For parents, it can often feel like you’re trying everything you’ve been told should work, but still left feeling frustrated and disconnected.

I specialize in working with adults who experience chronic emotion dysregulation, often rooted in complex trauma, mood and anxiety disorders, or long-standing patterns of disordered eating. Many of my clients struggle to manage overwhelming emotional states, engage in self-critical or perfectionistic thinking, and feel disconnected from their bodies or sense of self. They may find themselves cycling through intense highs and lows, using food, control, or avoidance as coping strategies, and feeling stuck in shame or confusion about how to move forward.

Parenting is hard. Like, really REALLY hard. I know we've all been there....feeling isolated, alone, and like we are failing ourselves and our children. But if you are here now, reading this, you are actively looking for new ways to parent and interact with your children. And that's huge! We know through decades of research that caregiver/parent self-reflection is the single greatest catalyst for positive change, in addition to feeling connected to and supported by others. That is where Circle of Security Parenting comes in! Learning how to identify and meet the emotional needs of our children, while staying balanced ourselves.

I am passionate about helping children, teens, and young adults find relief from anxiety and OCD. When anxiety takes over, life starts to feel smaller. As a parent, it can be heartbreaking to watch your child struggle with worries, social fears, panic, or rituals and constant reassurance-seeking that seem to control daily life. As a teen or young adult, you may feel stuck in patterns of avoidance, perfectionism, or compulsive behaviors that keep you from living fully. Therapy helps you or your child respond differently to anxiety and OCD, find relief, reduce avoidance, and re-engage in the experiences that matter most.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
