Welcome! My name is Jacob. I take a holistic, integrative approach to therapy that focuses on helping clients reclaim their sense of self and heal in mind, body and spirit. My perspective on healing is shaped by existential philosophy, attachment theory and somatic approaches; focusing on become aware of the root cause of difficult emotions, how they present themselves in the body, and exploring new ways to heal in the here-and-now. Together, we will work towards identifying the cycles and patterns that leave you feeling stuck. It is never too late to begin healing and embrace your most authentic self.

Are you ready to reclaim your authentic self? You "know better," yet you keep repeating the same patterns, losing your temper, shutting down, or feeling disconnected and stuck. Maybe your emotions take over, pulling you for a ride again and again. Or perhaps your relationship feels distant, and real connection feels out of reach. You don’t have to stay trapped in these cycles, feeling alone. Many people tune out or dissociate just to cope, and that only deepens the frustration and isolation. I use an integrative approach that honors your mind, body, emotions, and spirit. because it’s not "all in your head."

Life can take unexpected turns, loss, stress, change, upheaval — and it’s natural to wonder what the next step is, how to find your footing again. I believe in a therapy approach grounded in respect, empathy, and genuine collaboration. My work combines evidence‑informed methods (such as CBT, mindfulness, narrative elements) with a person‑centered, strengths‑based philosophy. What that means is I don’t see “problems” first — I start with you: your values, your stories, your existing resources. Together we’ll identify your strengths, build resilience, and co‑create solutions and coping strategies that feel meaningful and work for you

Across the prairies of our country when a storm is approaching, cattle can be seen running away, which only elongates their discomfort. Buffalo on the other hand, can be seen turning and charging into the storm. As a result they reduce their duration of suffering and make it to clear skies sooner. My goal is to connect with individuals and couples who are navigating the storms of life and help them become the best versions of themselves. I utilize a warm and casual style that facilitates an environment of trust and support, allowing clients space to build effective skills and develop resiliency for the inevitable storms ahead.

Well you've gotten this far, you must be looking for something. Maybe thinking about getting clean & sober, searching for a counselor who will be "Straight To The Point." I do not have all the answers, but working together we can develop a plan that may help you succeed. Quitting is not going to be easy, but if you have the desire to want to change your life, to be honest with yourself, to make a commitment to yourself, and be willing to do the work, you too can change. Afterall, it's an investment in yourself, maybe even your family. I invest a lot of time and effort into what I do because I truly love what I do.

I have spent 25 years helping people move from what I call "Surviving to Thriving". I can help you through this process; dealing with the fears, the feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, the anger as we sometimes are forced into life changes we have no control over can, quite simply, overwhelm us. A deeply caring therapist, with the knowledge, experience, patience, and courage to help us along our life's path can be extraordinarily helpful.

Everyone needs support in sorting through their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors at various points in their lives. I hope to provide an empathic space where we can explore your inner world together, and in doing so discover new insights and skills that will help you cope with worry, low mood, and other issues. I tailor my approach to fit the specific needs of my clients. For example, practical skills for coping with anxiety could be beneficial to one person whereas understanding the patterns in an important relationship and how those patterns impact one’s self esteem could be helpful to another.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
