Hi, I'm Leon Morningstar! I'm a certified counselor, sex coach, and sexologist. I enjoy working with people on matters of sexuality and intimacy, especially at the intersections of disability and queerness.
I provide support for trans/gender expansive individuals, helping to navigate the emotional and physical aspects of transitioning, whether you're just starting to question your gender identity, or are somewhere on the vast spectrum of transitioning. I work with disabled individuals because I understand that navigating a world that isn't built with you in mind adds layers of stress and isolation to daily existence.

Love. Joy. Ecstasy. Awe. In my 19 years of clinical experience, I’ve discovered that we all have far more capacity for these expansive feelings than we realize. Whether you’re contending with emotional challenges, or feel ready to fly through the stars, I can work with you collaboratively to shape a life that fulfills your highest dreams, and maybe even soars beyond them. I’m eager to share what I’ve learned about our abilities to break out of old patterns of pain, fear, and shame into fruitful creativity and communion with the most inspiring aspects of being alive.

Now accepting PacificSource (Oregon): You are super kind and nice, except inside, you want more. You anticipate everyone's needs and everyone around you feels taken care of by you. Yet, when no one is looking, you feel frazzled and a little resentful. Others are happy while you feel guilty for setting limits. So you don't. Expressing your needs and desires, creating space for yourself feels selfish. Planting flowers? No creative energy. You keep giving because it's just a little thing to do for them and won't take but a minute. Asking for help, or taking time for your desires, makes you feel guilty, or even embarrassed.

Often therapy begins with an implicit question, such as “will I be okay?” or, “can I feel better?” Other clients might wonder if they will be accepted for who they are, both in and outside of therapy. I welcome you to bring your full self into our space together. I am here to meet you where you are with warmth and unconditional positive regard. Everyone needs something a little different - to move through stuck points, to gain insight, or to reconnect with oneself or others. Whatever your needs, I believe therapy should be flexible and responsive to your individual circumstances. We will co-create an approach tailored to your goals.

I have broad experience working with concerns about everyday problems at school, work and home, as well as more serious issues such as trauma and bipolar disorders. I start with psychoeducation and utilize educational materials about anxiety, depression, PTSD and other diagnoses. Then, you and I can build a timeline about "what happened to you," both the unpleasant memories and positive memories and strengths you have are included. From there, we break down thoughts/ feelings or memories that have been bothersome and holding you back from living your best life.

Have you often heard, "Don't be so sensitive?" Or perhaps the opposite happens and others act like you say the "wrong" thing, but you struggle to understand what the "right" thing even is? Maybe the world feels extremely abrasive and jarring to you and the more you try the more you find yourself shutting down and isolating yourself? You may have retreated into too much gaming or social media to cope. Add in trauma and it's all too much. Life may feel incredibly difficult to manage and now you are anxious, triggered, and don't know how to find your way to a life that feels right for you and honors who you are as a person.
