The quality of our personal relationships is one of the most important things in life. Relationships of all types--romantic, parental, friends, co-workers, etc.-- have the capacity for both tremendous joy and tremendous aggravation and heartache. My speciality is working with couples to help improve romantic relationships. Humans were created to be in relationship with one another and whether I am working with an individual, a couple or a larger family unit, the client's ability to maintain healthy relationships with family and loved ones is a primary focus.

I believe in the wisdom of people to access their own innate ability to heal themselves and to come to their own clarity of self understanding. As a therapist, my goal is to join with you on your journey self-discovery, empowerment and healing. My place in this relationship is to offer individual counseling from a client-centered, client-led perspective. I offer techniques from a variety of models rejecting a "one size fits all" approach. These include but are not limited to solution focused, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, life span integration, equine assisted therapy and Reiki, all with an emphasis on mindfulness.

We all go through hard times, and having someone in our corner can help us navigate them. Youth and adolescents especially need a space to connect and process through their relationships and struggles. It is in this safe space that children and youth can begin to build skills and correct behavior that may seem concerning or perplexing.

I believe that play and joy are profoundly healing. Perhaps you’ve already tried talk therapy, and are hungering for something more. I combine talk therapy with exercises that spark movement, play, and creativity. Whether you’re facing upheavals in personal or professional life or emotions that seem overwhelming, I’m confident that together we can create a space big enough to welcome in those feelings and experiences. By working with me, you will fine-tune your awareness, and develop skillful (and playful!) uses of your attention that nourishes yourself and those around you.

I am passionate about helping people find the nuance of balance in this chaotic experience we call life. And there are times when life is really hard and we need a safe place to process challenges and rediscover our direction in life. I strive to create a warm, caring space where a collaborative dialogue can happen to create an individualized therapeutic approach. My therapeutic style leans on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and includes Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, EMDR and mindfulness, with a little yoga thrown in periodically.

Admitting that you may need help and being willing to be vulnerable is the first step to healing, I am proud of each and every person that initially walks into the therapy space. I have a strong passion for walking alongside those in reaching their goals. I have 5+ years of different forms of coaching others in aligning with their values, reaching their goals and seeing them thrive. I strongly value the individual person and their unique strength, qualities, and values that make up who they are and set them apart.

What makes therapy work is trust and safety, in my experience. No matter what you're carrying, you can walk into my office and have a space to work through your stuff without criticism or judgement. I help people through all sorts of issues, and I have found that I work best with folks struggling with demons that they feel like they have to fight, who have aches in their chest. Whether this comes up as anxiety, PTSD or relationship difficulties, we can shine a therapeutic light into those places of darkness and invite healing to come in. All you need to ask yourself, is "Am I ready to change?"

I am a clinical psychologist who provides individual therapy services for adults. My approach is based on a cognitive-behavioral perspective, but I draw upon other approaches to collaboratively address the issues that concern clients. I tend to incorporate elements of Zen, Stoicism, and dialectical-behavioral therapy (DBT).

Maybe you have felt like an outsider, an alien, or a chameleon your whole life. Your friendships and relationships begin with an intense connection and then eventually end, leaving you feeling like they never really knew you in the first place. You have great empathy for others but have a hard time expressing or even identifying your own needs and above all else you don't want to be a burden. These are common experiences of individuals who have survived interpersonal trauma, but did you know these are also common feelings amongst high-masking neurodivergent people?

Therapy is an opportunity to learn how to be present with discomfort and cultivate a new path forward in the direction of the life one wants that is full, rich, and meaningful. I aim to help clients identify and cope with internal obstacles that keep them from having the kind of life they want. If you are interested in exploring the process of making necessary changes to live a more fulfilling life that is centered on your personal values and strengths then this will likely be a good fit.

I love working with both individuals and couples and in either case take the approach of discussing what it means to walk through this world in relation to others. Whether that's a committed relationship to a loved one or the relationship you've developed with a casual co-worker or the relationship you have with your parents or the relationship you have with yourself (how you view and think of yourself); all of these carry deep complexity. And all relationships take work. Finding someone who can help you navigate why you feel stuck in these relationships sometimes, can be relieving, healing, and even life altering.

Have you experienced the loss of a loved one and need help navigating the difficult journey of grief? Or perhaps you need assistance negotiating a big life transition such as the end or start of a relationship, changing careers, becoming a new parent, or adjusting to your child's launch into the world. These tender and challenging places are precisely when we most need the support and undivided attention of another person—someone who can bear witness while helping us find our way to solid ground, and perhaps, even to a transformed version of our former selves.

Do you want a fresh outlook? Are you looking for a new perspective? Do you want change that offers realistic hope? I have been privileged over the past 20 plus years of helping people address change. We all want to avoid addressing personal change. In many ways it is like musical chairs: We cling as long as possible to the perceived "safe" place that we already know, refusing to loosen our grip until we feel sure another safe place awaits. Together we will work to establish attainable goals that are best suited for your life.

The pursuit of personal growth and healing should be an empowering adventure that challenges and motivates you to become aligned with your greatest potential. I believe that perspective is everything. It allows for the inner reflection and progression of personal understanding while navigating the world. It can be the catalyst for meaningful change in response to life and the unexpected circumstances that can present themselves at any moment . It is one of your most valuable assets that should provide comfort, purpose and strength; not fear, confusion, and doubt.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
