Trauma, anxiety, and relationship distress can leave you feeling stuck, misunderstood, broken, and isolated. New clients often have trouble connecting with others, accessing joy or ease, and sometimes even having hope at all. Couples or relationship clients express not feeling seen or heard in their relationships and sometimes pitted against each other instead of on the same team their partner. My gentle, experiential, relational style meets you where you are while holding a firm belief in your capacity to grow.

How did you get here? Exhausted, crippled with guilt, insecure and unsure of yourself, questioning "did I ruin my life", and searching for help out of this hell. I know you have little to no energy but here you are, reading this. I know you love your child, and that you are doing you best - Because here you are, looking for help! I work with parents who are serious about getting help, who are tired of feeling anxious and searching the internet for the parenting hacks and gadgets. You want to treasure this precious time and build a trove of pleasant memories. You want to sleep and not check the monitor a zillion times tonight.

I bring humor and metaphor into therapy because I believe healing doesn't always have to feel heavy. Individuals looking for support around grief, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma will find compassionate care and a thoughtful, attentive presence, with a commitment to meeting each person where they are, supporting them in a grounded way. Some sessions may be dedicated solely to processing feelings, while others more structured with practical tools. I draw from Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness, and trauma-informed care to help you understand yourself more deeply. What matters to my clients matters to me.

Are you feeling not right in your body or as if you don’t belong to the gender you were assigned at birth? Are you afraid to come out to someone you love? Did your partner or spouse tell you he/she/they are transgender and you are left with confusion and fear? Are you a parent of a child who came out to you and identifies as LBGTQIA and you don’t know how to process your feelings or take a deeper look within? Do you use substances and feel stigmatized by being called an “addict” with no hope for support? Do you use substances and are not ready to stop, but want someone to talk to that will accept you where you are at?

Are you a spiritual being looking for support in navigating this world? Would you like to further develop your unique spiritual path as a pathway to improve your mental health? Psychotherapy is an amazing place to clear your mind and heal your heart, creating channels for your spirituality to emerge. Trauma and oppression can lead to dysfunction and self destruction. This makes it hard to feel the loving awareness that is our true nature. As part of our work we can explore spiritual philosophy and practices, based on your spiritual interests and intuition.

Welcome! I offer ADHD, Autism, cognitive, or diagnostic testing for adults. Did a family member with similar traits receive a diagnosis and it has made you wonder about your own life? Maybe you’ve always felt just a little bit different and want to know more about yourself. Or maybe, in order to receive accommodations you’ve been told you must have formalized testing. The majority of settings we find ourselves in (work, school, social, romantic) expect us to think and behave in specific or “typical” ways. Life is hard enough without the weight of these challenges. Through testing, we will work together to find your answers.

The human condition is a complex one. Life’s complexities can create barriers from living to our fullest potential. Many of us encounter struggles with inner anxieties, self-criticism, avoidance, or fears of failure. We judge who we are based on how we are perceived by others, neglecting what we value within ourselves. In moments, we may feel like we have to hide parts of ourselves from others or busy ourselves to divert our attention from the challenges that life continually throws at our feet.

Before therapy, most people have identified emotions and behaviors that they have tried to change. When these efforts are not successful, there are often blind spots or important ties to unresolved, and sometime unrecognized, issues from the past. I work collaboratively to define the problem, identify patterns and their sources, and then to uncover new options. Since my former practice was in Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA, I have worked extensively with students and young adults. Often I use family theory in working with an individuals to increase awareness of options within relationships and with his/her family. .

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
