Life happens and we often have little control over it. In spite of the pain we may experience as a result, we are equipped with everything we need to minimize unnecessary suffering. Therapy can help us reclaim and develop the skills to navigate life's challenges and live the life we want.

I help women and men navigate their anxiety, perfectionistic tendencies, trauma, and relationship issues to build a stronger life. Are your expectations for yourself sustainable and realistic? Have you experienced trauma that has taken a negative toll on your day-to-day life? Maybe you have lost sight of who your authentic self is by trying to take care of everyone else. Many men and women struggle with honoring their personal goals and autonomy by setting too high expectations for themselves. Pushing off exploring trauma can also increase mental health barriers. You deserve a safe place to move through your trauma and anxiety.

I work primarily with clients addressing anxiety, depression and relationship issues, to set both short- and long-term goals. The structure of the psychotherapy varies with the clients' needs, but I work primarily in cognitive behavioral, problem solving and psychodynamic modes. I encourage feedback and questioning, in order to get perspective and deal with both immediate and as well as underlying issues.

It is important to me that you be the guiding voice in your therapeutic journey. I want to offer you more than scratching the surface, or putting a band-aid on your pain. Let's get to the root. This work is about you - how you relate to yourself and to me. It's about the pain that you've carried (consciously or unconsciously), the grief that has shaped you and the coping mechanisms and defenses that you have adopted in order to live your life. I will bring my curiosity and my awareness to your thoughts, your feelings, your behavior. Together we will get to know the true you.

I deeply care about helping people through perinatal struggles, anxiety, and grief. Do you feel ready for something better? Do you get weighed down by guilt and shame when anxiety, sadness, or exhaustion takes over? You want to feel better, but no matter what you try, it doesn’t work for long. You are worthy of a happier tomorrow. I can help you get there.

My counseling clinic name is Pain Alternatives because my early practice was primarily in structural medicine. I became interested in mental wellness after years of seeing the inextricable connectedness of mental and physical pain. In my current practice, I use a time-limited dynamic psychotherapy model, and medication prescription and management wherever clinically appropriate. You can come for medication management alone, for counseling alone, or for a combination of medication prescription and management with counseling sessions.

I offer therapy for individuals who are looking to heal from past trauma, explore their identity, build healthier relationships, and live more fully in alignment with their true selves. While healing is often thought of as a serious and challenging process, I believe it can also involve embracing more pleasure, play, joy, and connection in life. In my practice, we focus not only on addressing the pain but also on cultivating the positive, life-affirming experiences that can bring greater balance and fulfillment.

We often learn ways of dealing with problems that can create more trouble than we intended. Maybe you become habitually hard on yourself or those around you. Maybe you feel stuck in indecision or backed into a corner by life's demands. Maybe you have found ways to soothe yourself that aren't serving you anymore. Or you might be facing the reality of one of life's painful truths such as loss, illness or an accident that has altered your course, leaving you unsure how to face what undeniably is, or how to move forward.

I chose to become a therapist after doing social work with children and families. Witnessing the trauma and the way that trauma impacted those individual lives caused me to develop an interest in and concern for individuals struggling with CPTSD, PTSD and childhood trauma. I have always enjoyed listening to people's stories and making a genuine connection. I believe in the healing power of therapy and the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I believe in the importance of active listening and making you feel truly heard, cared about, safe, and understood. The majority of my experience is as a child and family therapist.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
