I have been practicing psychology in Washington State since 2009. As a clinical health psychologist I understand the role that the mind and body have on each other and have learned/fine tuned the mental and emotional strategies to not only improve emotional and mental well-being, but also have some positive effects on improving physical well-being.

Not accepting new clients currently as of 1/2025. Our wounds are often the openings into the best and most beautiful parts of ourselves. The greatest healing comes from telling our story and each of us have a unique way of relating to the world and a story that deserves to be heard. I believe every person possesses an intuition and the innate knowledge to heal, grow, move forward, and create change within themselves and the greater world. I use a compassionate, collaborative, and trauma focused approach to begin the healing process by creating a strong therapeutic relationship based on trust and caring.

Starting therapy can be a challenge; digging into what you have been avoiding, looking inside yourself and acknowledging there are things you'd like to change, letting out past traumas and facing them so you can move forward. There is a saying in therapy that sometimes things get worse before they get better. This has to do with the need to face those things in order to process them. Now imagine them being better, finding relief, pride, balance, and confidence. Yes, therapy can be scary and hard, it can be difficult to start but when you get to the other side it's worth it.

Since 1998, I have been working with individuals, couples, and families and treating issues related to: depression, anxiety, communication problems, interpersonal conflict, trauma recovery, military deployment, abortion recovery, adult children of divorced parents, pre-marital counseling, multi-cultural marriage and many other identity/spiritual crises. I see clients on the brink of divorce rediscover their passion for each other, clients merely surviving with depression/anxiety start truly living again, and clients going through the motions find purpose, meaning and fulfillment in their relationships, in their careers and in their lives. Often 10-14 sessions can lead to significant and lasting change.

Have you ever said or made promises to yourself that you would quit looking at porn, going to strip clubs, or having hookups with those who mean nothing to you? Problematic sexual behavior comes in many forms. A common outcome is that it carves a trail of destruction & shame in the lives of those who struggle with it. It's destructive to one's relationships, self-esteem, and ability to lead an honest life. Many have tried to stop self-medicating with problematic sexual behavior on their own. The cycle of addiction usually gets the best of those who lack support. Breaking free requires strength outside of and greater than oneself.

From early childhood, we are surrounded by expectations - from family, friends, culture, society.  We internalize those expectations and experience their impact on our health, career, finances, relationships. Sometimes it manifests as perfectionism or Imposter Syndrome…sometimes as anxiety, grief, depression and stress.  In the effort to please everyone, we are often left exhausted, defeated, feeling like a failure. So maybe it’s time to rewrite that script imposed upon you…or the one that you imposed upon yourself.

Accepting new clients as of March 10, 2025! I spent a lot of time making this page perfect, then realized it was boring. This page is supposed to be a snapshot of what you will get in the therapy room. I’m warm, curious, inviting, funny, and I value this intimate space. I want this page to help you decide if we’ll work well together, not just list what I’ve done. What you probably want to know is (a) Do I know what I'm doing? and (b) What inspires me to work with clients around anxiety, trauma, and family-of-origin issues? See my website for more, or read below!

If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like you've lost touch with who you are, you're not alone. Life transitions—whether it's a divorce, career change, becoming a parent, or simply realizing that people-pleasing has left you drained—can shake your sense of self. Maybe you find yourself constantly second-guessing decisions, battling anxiety, or feeling like you're not "enough." These feelings are more common than you might think, and they're not a reflection of your worth. My goal is to empower you to trust yourself, set healthy boundaries, and embrace the life you envision.

My ideal client is a high functioning adult who is not necessarily diagnosed with anything, but senses that something is just not right with them, and they don't know how to start. They are somebody who has achieved a lot in life, perhaps professionally, and for some reason they are just not as happy as they used to be, or no longer as interested in what used to be interesting. They are open-minded to try out new methods to help jump-start them back into high gear again. They are motivated, want to change, believe they can change, and are open to doing homework, reading literature and are interested in solving problems together.

I’ve learned to cooperate with the ebb and flow of life and to co-create with the universe. It is my intention to align with other souls who are in a place within their life in which they aspire to grow and expand within. It's time to make the necessary changes in your life now. Initial trust is not earned, it is a risk. And so it means you might be a member of the human race if you struggle with this in your first session. The safer someone is, the more likely a person is to venture into trust, but it takes time to know someone, and so in the beginning, trust is built together. Sometimes though it is hard to even know what safe is anymore. Well, for starters, it's when you can be yourself, feel acceptance, kindness and love, do not have to fear abusive or controlling behavior, experience confidentiality, and the person before you is genuine, with a willingness to help...being funny doesn't hurt either.

We all find ourselves stuck at times in unwanted patterns or past hurts and are unsure how to move forward. In my work as a counselor, I have been able to help individuals discover new ways of relating to themselves and others, integrate painful memories to find wholeness, and develop new ways of responding to life's challenges.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
