I specialize in interventions, so my ideal client is the family member or friend of an addict. This "concerned other" is usually out of options and has lost hope. My job is to either re-instill hope or enhance the hope, so that the addict can be helped. With intervention, I use both the Johnson model and the ARISE model. With 16 years of experience conducting interventions, I have encountered most things that happen in an intervention, and can prepare the addict's family members and/or friends so they can walk through the intervention process with the least amount of anxiety.

I work with individuals who have experienced relational trauma, are living with neurodivergence, or any other kind of sensitive nervous system, and are looking to heal through nurturing, safe, and supportive relationships. I also enjoy coaching caregivers of children with sensitive nervous systems, in a supportive and non-judgmental manner. Working with foster and adoptive parents/caregivers is another specialty of mine that I relate to personally, as a former foster and current adoptive parent. I believe that caregivers first need to feel heard, understood, and supported, before meaningful change can happen at home.

Hi! In my life I have learned the value of a good counselor, someone who is there to listen, provide perspective, and challenge assumptions. A person that is there to help you tell your story, find meaning, and identify strengths. Counseling is not always an easy thing for people to engage in and can seem intimidating and scary at times. It may lead you to explore things that are painful and frightening, and may bring up emotions that many of us are hesitant to explore. As I work with people I strive to make a space where these feelings, experiences, and thoughts can be freely expressed and explored in a way that promotes healing.

Therapy is fun. Therapy is creative. Therapy is a two-person job. Therapy is human connection. Therapy is uncomfortable. Therapy is finding your authenticity. Hi! I'm Josie and before I am a therapist, I am human, just like you. When I am not doing therapist things you will catch me being human with my pet pig and cats, or thrifting for goodies. I enjoy the little glimmers in life and hope to inspire you to do the same. It is my goal to work closely with you to structure therapy to be what you need. It is so important to connect with your therapist to build a trusting relationship. This will be our first step together.

Using a client centered focus my desire is to provide you with a safe and welcoming space for you to work through your identified issues and foster an environment that utilizes your strengths and creates individual growth. Much of my career focus has been with adults that have severe and persistent mental illness that intersect with the justice system. I primarily worked with those transitioning out of the correctional setting and those still incarcerated. I have a strong belief in restorative justice offering compassion to both victims and survivors. I believe strongly in a mindful approach to our mental health.

Who you are: You are motivated to do the hard inner work and ready to confront your own stuff. You understand that therapy also happens outside of our weekly meeting, and are prepared to implement what we talk about in session outside of session. You understand that therapy can feel hard at times, but continue to show up for yourself to do the work. You understand that therapy is not totally linear, it may feel a little hard before it feels better. You are ready to feel supported, held and challenged.

To quote Anne Lamott, "relationships are hard, hard, hard". I have over ten years of experience working with partnerships of all sorts; couples, siblings, adult children and parents, coworkers, etc. With a solution focused approach we'll work together to improve communication, increase emotional awareness and resilience in the hopes of creating healthy patterns in your day to day interactions. This work can be done within the relationship, or individually, and I am happy to support either of these options.

Welcome! I work with individuals, couples and families. A basic guiding principle in my work is that, when we are able to really see and accept where we are, and who we are, we begin to heal and grow. I see therapy as a sacred space, a place of safety in which we can allow ourselves to go deeper into our experience of ourselves, the other, and of our life as a whole. There is a trust I have found in this process, that if we attend to what comes up in this place, it will lead us through.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
