The idea of starting therapy can be intimidating. As a society, we have been conditioned to believe that therapy is only for those who have “something wrong” with them. For many, that belief can lead to carrying feelings of shame, low self-worth, and frustration that they can’t move past it. As a therapist, it is my goal to help you understand that there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Rather, it is my hope that together, we can shift from asking “what’s wrong with me?” to “what happened to me?”

I specialize in treating children, adolescents, and young adults ages 7-25. I have experience working with individuals from many diverse backgrounds, skill sets, needs, and honor all aspects of the unique person that you are. I believe in empowering clients to take an active role in the therapy process. I view counseling as a collaborative effort where we work together as a team to find interventions, treatment methods, and goals that best suit you and your current needs. Every stage of life presents us with its own unique challenges. No person, no matter their age should be defined by their current circumstances.

My specialties are individual, couples therapy and trauma work. With couples, I work to improve communication, to deepen empathy and mutual understanding, and to resolve conflict. My perspective is that all long term relationships are challenging at times and that the rewards of listening to and of understanding one another are very much worth the, at times, considerable effort involved.

Many of us are waking up to the effects of generational trauma. You may have a history that has included family members with addictions, severe mental illness or anger problems. It could be a new realization leading to a hunger to to break free and do life differently. Or it may be you've been aware of the effects of familial patterns for some time and have worked hard to create a life that goes in a better direction. Despite all the work, it can still be possible to get stuck from time to time. I hope to walk beside you as you break the cycles, find your path and create the life where you belong.

I have over ten years of experience working with partnerships of all sorts; couples, siblings, adult children and parents, coworkers, etc. With a solution focused approach we'll work together to improve communication, increase emotional awareness and resilience in the hopes of creating healthy patterns in your day to day interactions. This work can be done within the relationship, or individually, and I am happy to support either of these options.

A basic guiding principle in my work is that, when we are able to really see and accept where we are, and who we are, we begin to heal and grow. I see therapy as a sacred space, a place of safety in which we can allow ourselves to go deeper into our experience of ourselves, the other, and of our life as a whole. There is a trust I have found in this process, that if we attend to what comes up in this place, it will lead us through.

I believe a sense of trust and safety within the therapeutic relationship is necessary in order to facilitate the change we want to see in our lives. To work towards this goal in my therapeutic relationships, I work from a feminist multicultural framework. I believe the client is the expert on their own experiences. I use collaborative, relational, and strength-based therapy to facilitate a genuine and honest therapeutic relationship that can promote insight and adaptive change.
