I get it - seeking support isn't always easy. It requires a great deal of courage. Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience in our lives. I help people work through the unrelenting cycle of stress, worry, and shame that comes with anxiety and trauma. Depression can feel like a weight that you're always carrying. Through counseling and treatment, you can recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life. Taking a mind-body approach to your care, you can learn the tools that help you move through these issues.

He is also influenced by ecopsychology, and believes the effects of geopolitical events can create significant stress and trauma. Clark is interested in the modern sciences in general and has a background in wildlife biology. He is informed about human attachment and is dedicated to continuing to improve his understanding and treatment of psychological trauma. He has not found it helpful to differentiate between socalled “big T trauma” and “small t trauma” – rather, he believes that all of us have experienced deep challenges and traumas in our lives, regardless of psychological and socioeconomic factors.

You’ve grown up wondering if you’re weird, wrong, or at fault. You feel like you don’t align with your family, your assigned gender, or traditional relationships. You wonder if you speak the same language as others in your world. You’ve tried to fit in, get things done, and meet others’ standards, but have always felt like you’re missing the mark. You feel stuck, like everyone else knows something you don’t. Now, you want guidance, support, and a deeper understanding of yourself and your ideal life.

The search for a therapist can sometimes be a daunting task. I strive to ensure that my clients get the most out of their treatment by creating an environment which allows them to feel safe and comfortable while helping to facilitate an increase in self-awareness, insight and self-care. Exploring life experiences, both past and present, is crucial to the process of identifying unhealthy patterns in thoughts and behaviors which often lead to anxiety, depression and difficulty navigating interpersonal relationships. I believe that supportive guidance can help alleviate symptoms and allow space for positive change and personal growth.

People often seek out therapy when they are in relief of mental and emotional pain. I believe much of this pain is rooted in attachment failures in childhood which then branch out into how you see yourself, relate to others, etc. Ways you may have managed this pain no longer seem to be working. This crisis of sorts is an opportunity for deeper understanding, acceptance and transformation. Therapy can be a vehicle for achieving this. My areas of focus are: mood disorders, trauma, self-esteem, relational difficulties and life transitions. I tend to work well with clients who are open, curious and motivated for change.

Erin helps her clients to develop stronger coping skills while gaining a greater sense of peace in their lives. The work of therapy is to reconnect you with your longlost feelings. We repair in relating because this is how the disconnects got there to begin with. We do talk and listen or utilize art therapy, when appropriatebut we privilege emotion and emotional truth – beginning with the vital little glints of core feeling that might accompany what you say. The wonderful and strange thing – the experience of feeling these disowned feelings is very different from what you might imagine at the outset.

Are you experiencing relationship challenges, sexual concerns, or impacts from trauma? I'd love to support you. I'm a individual, couples, and sex therapist with the hope to help you live a more authentic and fulfilling life. I understand that relationships can be really challenging, even when you love each other deeply. Sometimes we need an outside perspective to get unstuck and build a more fulfilling relationship. I also know that sexuality is something we often struggle with in isolation. Whether you're hoping to reconnect with your sexuality, address mismatched desire in your relationship, or process sexual trauma, I can help.

On maternity leave for remainder of 2025. You work hard to please people around you, but you are burned out. You're a high achiever and great at helping others. But caring for yourself is overwhelming, because you don't know what you need or want. You may experience high anxiety and feel guilty almost reflexively. You know you shouldn't be so hard on yourself, but find it difficult to practice self-acceptance. You also know that you are tired of sacrificing yourself for everyone else and of being your own worst critic. It's time for a change. You want to pay gentle attention to yourself. You're ready to reconnect with yourself.

I enjoy working with families, couples, and individuals who are experiencing relationship problems. I also have a background in treating depression and anxiety. My approach emphasizes helping people achieve practical results and is based in family systems and cognitive behavior theories. One of my guiding beliefs is that people are basically competent and are always seeking to solve problems on their own. In most cases this works well, but sometimes people get stuck and their attempted solutions either have no effect or make things worse. I see my role as helping people get "unstuck."

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
