Therapy is about change, growth, and healing; being seen, heard and understood; accessing the truest parts of ourselves. I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals, couples, families, and groups in my over 20 years of experience as an LCSW in the mental health field. I’ve worked in a wide variety of practice settings including healthcare, community mental health, and homeless youth services. I draw from an eclectic mix of therapeutic frameworks and techniques including Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Interpersonal Neurobiology, among others.

Trauma comes in many forms. It can be from childhood abuse, car accidents, toxic work environment, toxic relationship, racial injustice, war, rape, bullying, natural and manmade disasters like wildfires and earthquakes. You may have the symptoms of PTSD but not have explicit memories of the traumatizing experience. EMDR walks you through a series of steps to help decrease the symptoms of PTSD (nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, insomnia, avoidance and hopelessness about the future). It also helps to map out a plan to deal with future triggers and gives a renewed and positive belief system about the self. I offer a free consultation.

Let's face it. Life is a juggling act between home, work, school, friends and family. Our bodies are bioenergetic systems geared for balance. When things go well, our energy flows and we feel good. When life happens and stress occurs, we can feel anxiety, depression and physical pain. We reach outside ourselves for relief when going inside is the answer. If you are ready for change and are committed to making that happen, please make an appointment today. My approach is wholistic and I use Energy Psychology (Tapping), Zen Buddhism and Mindfulness to achieve a client's goals.

Seeking the support of a counselor can be a difficult first step in understanding the barriers preventing you feeling well and whole. It is an honor for me to earn your trust. Neuroscience has taught us that "the mind" is encapsulated not only in the head; it exists throughout the whole body. As a holistic practitioner, I am interested in how you can learn to listen to the wisdom and cues of your inner knowing, beyond just what your thoughts tell you, and mend the relationship between mind/body. We all have the ability to grow and transcend from our past and present wounds and turn them into sources of empowerment and healing. I greet identity work, life transitions, and LGBTQ+ issues with positive psychology and feminist therapy frameworks to aim towards your sense of liberation.

I enjoy working with families, couples, and individuals who are experiencing relationship problems. I also have a background in treating depression and anxiety. My approach emphasizes helping people achieve practical results and is based in family systems and cognitive behavior theories. One of my guiding beliefs is that people are basically competent and are always seeking to solve problems on their own. In most cases this works well, but sometimes people get stuck and their attempted solutions either have no effect or make things worse. I see my role as helping people get "unstuck."

Starting therapy for the first time (or with a new therapist) can feel daunting. It's also an opportunity to transform that familiar feeling of stuckness. Our relationship is essential to the therapy process. I am deeply committed to fostering a safe and compassionate relationship with those I work with. Contact me for a free consultation.

"When you come into therapy it is a time to expand the sense of yourself. Our job is to get familiar with the values that have helped you get through difficult situations and use them now. You may be a combat veteran, mental health or law enforcement worker having family or relationship problems. You need clear and practical strategies for replacing automatic reactions with mindful responses. Feeling understood by another human being is useful for flexible problem solving and clarifying your values. The majority of my experience is working with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. PTSD will definitely get better with knowledgeable treatment."

I honor the connection of mind, body, heart, and spirit, and I incorporate mindfulness and somatic-based interventions to bring greater awareness to one’s whole being. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where you will know and feel that you are accepted just as you are. If you seek healing, learning, or growth… If you embrace curiosity, awe, or the unknown… If you are a mystic, a polytheist, an INFJ, or just plain different... then I might be the therapist for you. You want more than just an empathic listener (though I am that). You want support as you transform your feelings, actions, relationships, and spirit, helping you live a life richly infused with your values. You want a therapist who can think creatively. If you're LGBTQ+ - welcome, I'm a non-binary transwoman (she/they). If you're BIPOC - welcome, I'm white and keen to play a part in ending racial injustice.

I believe the way to success in therapy is to find a therapist that is a good fit for your needs. Therapy is a relationship. One that works best when open, honest, and collaborative. I am invested in the client as an individual but also as a part of a greater system. I work from a systemic lens and believe deeply that our interactions and habits are greatly influenced by those around us and our previous experiences. My work with clients is done with the consideration of one’s identity, family history culture, and the world around us.

I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the core of individual and family work. When working with children, I believe in the power of play, art, and connection to build relationships and skill-build along with process challenging life events. I support families with increasing communication, building compassion and connection while honoring families’ inherent strengths and background. During individual therapy with adults, our work will be geared towards finding balance in navigating the unknown and building coping tools. In all aspects of my work I am committed to working from an anti-oppressive and affirming lens.

When the brain is highjacked in response to difficult memories and the bad-actor urges to disappear, embrace chaos or dive in to substances overtake us, what are your options? How will you keep the peace with those you love? I call it the practice of recovery. The welcoming of perspective. The experiments with change. The myth of rock bottom. The clinical education on brain/body balance and the recalibration of confidence. The Ah-Ha moments of “That’s it! You get me!” The realization we don’t need new … we need the loving embrace of … you. Are you ready to lean in?

Therapy is a collaborative partnership in which every part of you is allowed to exist and evolve. As an art therapist, I see creating as an opportunity to respond to that which seems otherwise insurmountable. It is a chance to express the unspeakable and connect to your wholeness.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
