Happiness is the only true measure of success. When we realize that something is impeding our journey of life a conscious choice can be made to change that which is keeping greater happiness at bay. The other choice is to remain on our current path and choose to accept things exactly for how they are. Self-doubt, fears, anger, grief, past trauma, or maladaptive behaviors, challenge many good people. Whether it is personal growth you seek or better relationships with loved ones, neighbors, or coworkers - permit me to be your professional guide on the road to your success.

Stepping into therapy is an act of courage, and my goal is for you to feel safe, respected, and confident in the care you’re receiving from the very beginning. While many people seek therapy as a last resort, I invite you to come with curiosity—open to understanding how big emotions, stress, or old patterns may be shaping the way you move through the world. Whether you’re feeling stuck, trying to make sense of your child’s temperament and behavior, or navigating a major life transition, Pika and I are here to help you explore what’s happening beneath the surface and what it means for the life you want to lead.

With two decades of working with court-ordered clients needing to address anger management and relationship violence, I help individuals and couples understand how their childhood and adolescent experiences effect their approach to marriage and families. Changes cannot be made until we understand our baggage, why it gets us triggered, and how to deal with it positively within your relationship. I love helping individuals identify and understand the pieces of their puzzles. I approach counseling to teach clients about Relationships 101, which I refer to as “common sense made obvious.” I help clients to re-write their “programs.”

My approach to therapy with adults is based upon the belief that everyone has the power to heal oneself. My role is to serve as a guide, a facilitator or a conduit depending on the needs of my clients. The longer I practice, the more I realize that the key to "treat" human conditions is through light, love and compassion. I have a lot of success working with people who suffer from trauma (e.g., sexual abuse), anxiety, severe depression and life changing events (e.g., severe illness, loss of a love one). Therapy process includes inner child work, shadow work and energy healing.

I am passionate about working with individuals and families, using a variety of therapeutic interventions tailored to each person’s unique needs and preferences. One of my areas of expertise is supporting individuals living with bipolar disorder, as well as their families. I’m currently recruiting participants for group therapy. There are few spaces where we can truly show up as our authentic selves — group therapy offers just that. Techniques used may include behavioral, cognitive, mindfulness-based, family systems, and psychodynamic approaches (group descriptions below).

Therapy isn’t just about fixing what’s wrong, it’s about creating what’s right for you. I believe that true mental health is more than just the absence of distress; it’s the presence of well-being, purpose, and fulfillment. Too often, we focus solely on reducing symptoms, assuming that once anxiety, depression, or other struggles fade, happiness will naturally take their place. Simply feeling “okay” is not the same as feeling engaged, connected, and alive. The absence of mental illness does not automatically mean the presence of mental health.

I believe therapy is a gift you give yourself. Until we have the skills to identify our needs, learn to communicate those needs effectively, and give permission to nurture ourselves, we are not fully liberated to love and take care of one another. You can give yourself the gift of therapy. Allow yourself to sit, pause, feel, think, process, and simply be. I believe you have all the resources within you to navigate whatever terrain you have found yourself in life, and it would be my honor to accompany you in your journey to self-discovery.

Nature-Based, Somatic & Depth-Oriented Psychotherapy Serving California, Hawaiʻi & Virginia I offer therapy rooted in the belief that healing happens in relationship — with ourselves, with others, and with the living world around us. My work is grounded in nature-based, somatic, and Buddhist-informed psychology, supporting people who feel isolated, overwhelmed, or disconnected from meaning, body, or belonging. Much of the suffering I see is not pathology, but disconnection — from land, community, body, and inner knowing. Therapy, in this sense, becomes a remembering: a return to relationship, rhythm, and aliveness.

I was born and raised in Hawaii and I'm consistently inspired by my love of the islands and my community. I grew up honoring my mixed ancestry of healers and have a deep commitment to helping those around me. I believe we all have an innate ability to restore ourselves and connect with our inner healer. Though the process of therapy can seem daunting and impossible, I'll be there alongside you with tenderness and care.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
