My ideal client is one who is willing to self-reflect and put in the work it takes to run up the "down" escalator. Life is hard but change is possible. Depression, worry, anxiety, poor self-worth and trauma are an unfortunate, albeit reality of life. One of my favorite quotes is, "Talents are best nurtured in solitude; character is best formed in the stormy billows of the world." (Goethe) Thus, it's vital to push through the trials and get to the other side. An ideal client has realistic goals and expectations and is willing to accept "the gift of honesty," and do the work necessary to heal and evolve.

I work with individuals on a wide array of topics, most involving some level of depression, anxiety, and feeling unwanted or unlovable. Many have tried to handle things on their own and if things were not too bad, they did just fine. Others continue to struggle to self-regulate, self-heal, and self-manage their symptoms and are faced with the stigma of being seen as odd, irritable, annoying, needy, or high maintenance. It is hard enough to be struggling with mental health symptoms; it's even worse when people are beginning to reject you because of how you are behaving.

It takes courage to ask for help. I honor you in your pursuit of healing and wholeness. Experience and data show that a strong therapeutic relationship is the key to success in therapy. I endeavor to provide a safe container into which each individual human being who comes for therapy is welcomed. We will work together to find ways to meet your needs and work toward your goals, and build from there. Our plan will evolve as we move forward in a collaborative way. It's hard to believe in yourself when you're struggling. Tough situations are stressful and can leave you overwhelmed, exhausted, frustated and over it. Finding the energy to believe in yourself, let alone take action, could feel like too much. I'd guess that you know what's wrong and how you'd like to fix it. But maybe there's too much going on, or you're tired of people jumping to tell you what to do when all you want is to be heard. You know you have what it takes to get to a good place, but it can be hard to believe in what you know.

I feel strongly that how we heal is through human connection. Therapy should be a space for exploration, growth, comfort, empathy, and understanding. If you find yourself burdened by the weight of the world, stuck in unhealthy communication or lifestyle patterns, trying to navigate complex transitions in your life, or wanting to reach new goals, then we can collaborate together. Ultimately, my job is to support the client. I maintain a lens of cultural awareness and social justice while keeping in mind different power structures of our societies.

Have you found yourself at a crossroads in your life, not sure which path to take? Do you feel like you've exhausted all of your options, and don't know where else to turn? Does life seem like too much, living in a society that makes it difficult to prioritize self and collective care? I believe that many common struggles we face are a result of the systems we are surrounded by. I aim to approach therapy from a multicultural, intersectional lens.

I have been working with people for 40 years and look forward to helping clients create healthy relationships with me, themselves and with those in their lives. I enjoy working with individuals from all racial and cultural backgrounds who are motivated to make changes in their lives; to reduce painful reactions; and increase their understanding of what makes them feel happy, strong and self assured. I encourage clients to do homework assignments in between therapy sessions, in an effort to help clients take ownership of their process, and learn coping skills that will last beyond treatment.

As a therapist from a social justice background, I deeply value the experiences each person brings with them into a session. I find that it is important to look at how values and brain-functioning shape the way we see the world. Empowerment through education and use of Harm Reduction Philosophy can help people to make healthy choices and improve their functioning in their relationships and self-care. I support my clients through building resources, problem-solving, and learning to use coping tools and self-awareness. Your wellbeing is the goal; the process to get there is the work in, and outside of, a therapy session.
