I work with women who are struggling with overwhelming anxiety. Sometimes this includes problems with relationships, work, their identity, spiritual issues, eating issues, and grief. My clients often come to me after a lifetime of wanting to prove themselves and never seem to get to the finish line. They can achieve, tough it out, and make other people happy, but aren’t really happy themselves. They seem put together on the outside, but have a hard time holding it all together. They want enjoyment, connection, and to be free from expectations.

I love helping people re-connect with their own happiness and practice a strength-based approach to assessment, strategies and treatment! My clinical expertise is in combining specialized clinical knowledge and skills in the service of resolving anxiety and depression. I find that many people diagnosed with long-standing clinical depression and anxiety are often suffering from the negative impact of self-criticism, relationship discord, past trauma, or achievement fatigue, and that once these are addressed, their symptoms subside. My intention is to help provide a safe space to reduce your suffering and provide coping strategies.

I believe that as living beings, we all have an innate impulse toward healing and growth, and that the role of a good therapist is to help facilitate the flow of these natural processes. My priority is to assist you in fostering a renewed connection to the inherent vitality, openness, calm, and creativity that reside deep within you and to help you embody these qualities as you turn toward life's challenges. Some populations that I am especially passionate about working with include men, neurodiverse couples and individuals (e.g., ADHD, autism, gifted, 2e), LGBTQ+ couples and individuals, alternative families, and veterans.

Do you feel disappointed by your relationships, consumed by stress, or have difficulty navigating food and sleep? Overwhelmed with anxiety and/or depression? Do you feel like you are often living a double life - showing up one way with others while tucking away parts of you that no one would understand? Our past experiences can leave us stuck, isolated and in patterns that no longer serve us. Many of my patients report that through therapy, they experience a greater ability to navigate stress, experience healthier relationships, gain insight about and change their unwanted patterns and symptoms, and feel hope for their future.

Each stage of life and facet of your identity presents its own obstacles to navigate. Maybe you’re a young person dealing with pressure from family & trying to define your identity. Or, maybe you’re an older adult who feels disconnected from yourself & like you’ve spent too much time caring for others. You might be an immigrant or first-generation American balancing cultures & trying to make things better for the next generation. In any case, it feels like change happens too fast, & it’s hard to catch your breath. All you want is to feel like yourself & find joy in your life, without feeling guilty for prioritizing your needs.

Does life feel unrecognizable right now? Maybe you are facing a new reality, one you did not expect to be facing now, or possibly ever. It still doesn’t feel quite real, like tomorrow when you wake up you’ll realize this was all just a very bad dream. It feels terrifying, uncomfortable, and exhausting, and you are having a hard time focusing your attention on anything else. You may find your thoughts rapidly cycling between endless “what if?” and “how did I get here?” spirals. You are not alone in feeling this way.

You feel alone and long to deeply connect with others, but you often end up feeling disappointed, unseen, used, or heartbroken. You’re overwhelmed with the transitions happening in your life and the confusing emotions going on inside of you, but you beat yourself up for being "too sensitive”. You’re working so hard to have a successful career and fulfilling relationships, but you never feel like you’re enough. You just want to feel better but you don't know where to begin.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
