Are you struggling to connect with a partner or child who is increasingly irritable and withdrawn? Has a family member turned to substances or addictive behaviors to cope with increased stress? As a psychotherapist, wife and mother, I know how heart-wrenching it is to watch someone you love struggle and be pushed away when you show you care. They may tell you nothing's wrong, but your concern doesn't just turn off like a switch. In fact, that may be part of the problem. While you may feel guilty or selfish when thinking about your own suffering, you need to learn to take care of yourself. After all, you can't pour from an empty cup.

You have always been a high achiever at work. At home, you are the rock of your family. Everyone always looks to you for help. You take care of everybody around you, but you always neglect yourself. Maybe because you’re keeping busy to avoid having to deal with your past hurtful experiences. You feel lost and lonely despite having people around you. No one knows about your struggles. But now you’ve reached a breaking point. Your anxiety is out of control, and it is affecting your work and personal life. You are ready to stop that infinite loop that keeps replaying. It’s time to take care of you. It is now time to find healing.

Hi, I'm Roni, I specialize in helping high-achievers and perfectionists finally feel their best is "good enough". My patients come from backgrounds that predispose them to taking on too much - such as having a parent with a substance use problem, being the oldest sibling in a high-need family, or coming from an immigrant household. These environments teach you to grow up quickly and to prioritize the needs of others over yourself. As an adult, the self-sufficiency that was previously a strength can become a barrier to fulfilling relationships. No one taught you skills like saying no, setting boundaries, and reaching out for support.

You're Not Broken! Your Relationship isn't Either! Tired of feeling like nothing you do is good enough or matters? I get it! I'm here to tell you something important: It's not your fault! You think the problem is communication or compatibility or you need to try harder. You learned how to love from 2 people who didn't know how to love themselves. Did love feel scary or conditional? Are these old patterns impacting your relationship without you recognizing it? Are you protecting yourself so you won't be hurt again? Single or partnered, is this protecting you from the very love you desperately want?

Hi there, I'm Emily. I am passionate about helping women and men reconnect to their truest, most authentic selves after experiencing trauma, loss, stress, and other life challenges that have left them feeling depleted, empty, anxious, lacking direction, or self-este Often we know who we truly are and what we are truly capable of at our core, but we have lost trust in ourselves and our ability to act in our own best interest. Together, we will explore the decisions, habits and behaviors that no longer serve you and work to replace these habits with new ones that align with our most authentic self and the life we want to lead.

What is it that causes you so much pain? Frequently our mental health is directly related to unresolved past hurts and traumas. These struggles can be from childhood and our family of origin, or perhaps they show up in the form of shame from choices we have made or choices other's have made against us. I encourage you to begin the work to overcome your negative experiences. Seek counseling if you want support and direction in gaining a positive perspective, want insight into managing difficult circumstances, or want to improve your communication or conflict resolution skills. You deserve to find fulfillment and joy.

Sometimes life feels like it's moving too fast and we can't quite catch our breath. We become disengaged, lose ourselves, and our relationships start to become impacted. We don't know who we are or how we even got here, let alone how our relationships got this way. What I know is that this doesn't have to be permanent. We can become bound by the chains of the past, and you deserve freedom. Whether you're seeking support for anxiety, trauma, relationships, or life transitions, I will meet you where you are with empathy and practical tools. My goal is to help you feel seen, understood, and more connected to your authentic self.

To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
