My ideal clients are adolescents transitioning into adulthood through older adults who are navigating substance use challenges, trauma histories, and mild to moderate depressive symptoms. They often experience recurring crises, difficulty with independent living skills, and unresolved trauma that impacts daily functioning and relationships. They need a safe, consistent, and trauma-informed therapeutic space that supports emotional regulation, stability, skill-building, and healing. Their goals include reducing substance use, processing trauma, strengthening coping and life skills, and improving mood.

My clients typically fall into three categories: 1) individuals with existential angst, questioning their trajectory in relationships, careers, and/or life; 2) individuals suffering from a myriad of compulsive behaviors/addictions; and 3) couples experiencing communication difficulties, misaligned values, discordant desires, or desiring archetypal reconstructions. My work emphasizes identifying & isolating troubling emotions that lead to negative thinking and behaving, and learning to think & act according to reason. I am offering in-person sessions and teletherapy.

We all have our unique story– the one that we tell and the one that others told us about who we are and where we come from. In therapy, one of the greatest gifts is to feel seen, heard, and validated by sharing who you are, what has happened along the way, and where you are going but maybe can't quite find. Most of the clients that come see me feel anxious, unseen, and alone. Some feel angry about that disconnection, while others turn that anger inward, afraid to risk pushing others further away. Together, we can begin to create a warm, affirming space to explore these experiences with curiosity and compassion.

You've hit the milestones that were supposed to feel like arrival — and still feel lost. Maybe you're watching everyone else seem to figure it out while you quietly wonder what's wrong with you. Nothing is wrong with you. You're in one of the hardest transitions life offers, and you don't have to white-knuckle through it alone. I also work with teens and families - helping parents and kids hear each other again, when every conversation has started to turn into a fight. I'll help your family learn how to slow down, understand what's being heard underneath what's being said and solidify new patterns of communication that work better.

We all want to be understood, accepted and loved; this can only happen through honest communication. Making the decision to seek help can be part of that communication. I provide a safe space to explore, discuss and process important issues that can affect you. I have an eclectic approach to providing psychotherapy. As one size does not fit all, therapy cannot be approached in the same way for everyone. It must be tailored to the specific needs, issues and problems that each person uniquely presents.

Some people arrive with a clear problem. More often it is something older than that. A pattern that runs through the family that nobody named. A grief that got postponed because there was work in the morning. An anxiety that came over with the family and stayed. I see adults and couples. Trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, the slow erosion in a relationship, a life transition. In Spanish or in English, whichever one the thing actually happened in. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Palo Alto and part of the group at Leela Mental Health, so if I am not the right fit, someone here will be.

One of the universal traits of humanity is the desire to seek connection with others and be understood. I seek to reach a deep understanding both of my clients and to help them understand themselves, their relationships and their lives better. I believe that with this understanding can come richer relationships and a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment. Although we often have loved ones with whom we share our life experiences, having someone to talk to outside this circle can allow a greater depth of understanding of one's past, present and internal world.

I’m a somatic therapist trained in EMDR (a trauma modality), EFT (couples therapy), Perinatal Mental Health, and am a certified sex educator. I help individuals and couples navigate the complexities of non-monogamy, life transitions, grief, fertility challenges, anxiety management, increasing self awareness, developing coping/regulation skills, trauma recovery, and beyond. I see therapy as a relationship that can facilitate growth and healing (in the myriad ways you might define those words) - not in isolation, but in support of connecting more fully outside of therapy, with yourself and your communities.

You may be navigating anxiety, burnout, religious trauma, or the complexities of modern relationships. Whether you're processing grief, family conflict, questioning long-held beliefs, or searching for purpose, you want greater clarity, emotional stability, and a more compassionate relationship with yourself. You don’t need to have it all figured out—just the curiosity to start.

How can I find a therapist in 94164?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
