Healing is a natural process. It is not something that needs to be forced, only supported and allowed. Often the beliefs and strategies we formed when young were helpful and necessary at the time, yet they can linger on into adulthood and limit us rather than assist us. Therapy is a process of unwinding what is no longer true or helpful, exploring what is most essential and true for us, and resting into a deeper sense of wholeness, authenticity, and well-being. My job is to help you find your own answers, your own clarity, your own empowerment. I can help you discover what is needed to support this healing and this growth.

You’ve lost track of the number of times your therapist has (not so subtly) recommended couples therapy. So here you are, scrolling Psych Today, searching for answers to a problem (feeling?) you can’t quite put words to. To say she can be "hard to read" is quite the understatement. If you understood the reason for these arguments you'd fix it! But you don't, obvs. You’ve done enough research to know when you need help. And it's not at all a sign that you’re doomed as a couple…Right? It’s either this or become an intuitive medium, because there’s no other way you’re going to start understanding what’s going on with her.

As he trekked through the California wilderness, John Muir said, “Going out is really going in.” Psychotherapy is a similar adventure, but one where going in is really going out. The internal journey of self-awareness leads to external change and healing. My hope is that each person experiences the thrill of growth and exploration of their mind. My training in psychodynamic, attachment, and trauma informed techniques has offered me the “gear” required to guide a summit into the psychic mountains, with the pace and route we determine together.

Something just feels "off". You are exhausted from looping in thoughts and patterns that are no longer serving you. You are overwhelmed by the state of things....the anxiety just won't go away, the grief is too much, the challenge is too big, the relationship is too far gone.... you secretly fear that you don't have what it takes to make the change you desire. Together we will uncover pain, fears and unmet desires that drive the spiral. We will rediscover and utilize your strengths to create a life that reflects your values.

Psychotherapy isn't one size fits all. It's a unique relationship that develops and responds to your needs, life-experiences, gender/ethnic/cultural identity, challenges and resources. You may be feeling stuck-repeating painful patterns, wanting to make changes but not knowing how. Or you're a survivor of sexual violence and the ways you've been coping aren't working anymore. I meet you where you are and bring my clinical and life experience, deep listening, compassion, acceptance, warmth and creativity. Together we create and draw on the power of a safe, accepting therapeutic relationship to support your growth and wholeness.

Eating disorders can feel hopeless, but they aren’t. Whether this is your first time seeking help, or your umpteenth time, I believe everyone can recover. Just as there are many reasons why an eating disorder manifests in your life, the way you recover will be just as unique. If there was a one size fits all solution, that would perhaps be as deceptive as the problem itself. Whether it’s perfectionism, judgment, loneliness, self-improvement, health, fear, family issues… Together we will discover what invites these problems into your life and begin to find what recovery means for you.

There comes a moment for each of us where we struggle to make sense of where to go next. Some part of us knows that life should be different. We long for something else and we don’t know how to get it. It could be more peace with or within our bodies. Maybe it’s resolution with our families or deeper relationship with our partners. Or we’re trying to figure out how to be less alone with our grief and pain.

Life can be better... we can feel, think, and live more in alignment with the ways that we really want to. Psychotherapy is an effective tool that can help get us there. While friends can help relieve loneliness and various medications can ease symptoms, the process of psychotherapy helps us to change the way we experience and interact with our feelings and with the world around us. For the past 20 years I have had a full-time psychotherapy practice and have helped many individuals and couples activate potential and live fuller more rewarding lives.

I collaborate with you to determine your goals for treatment. Your desires for the focus of our sessions may include removing blocks to personal growth, improving relationships with yourself and others, undoing past conditioning- especially related to trauma or adverse experiences, transforming shame, or increasing your understanding of mental illness, whether it's yours or someone you love. I also work with those with compassion fatigue and burn out, assisting my clients in recovering the joy and drive they once felt in their professional lives. Over the course of time I will check in to make sure progress or unforeseen issues are addressed.

Starting therapy can feel daunting, so take a moment to acknowledge that you have come this far in recognizing psychotherapy may be a helpful approach for you. Therapy requires self reflection, an open heart, and a curious mind into learning about ourselves and the way in which we interact with the world and those around us. Although it may be daunting, it is incredibly rewarding to unpack and understand what is getting in the way of happiness, growth, intimacy, and self-compassion.

Anxiety is the most common mental health problem, with an estimated 18% suffering from anxiety disorders at any one time. Fortunately, anxiety disorders are one of the most researched areas of mental health and have numerous treatments with strong research showing its effectiveness.
Anxiety can come in many different forms from specific phobias to an inability to stop worrying about most everything. Anxiety can cause physical illness, pain, difficulty sleeping, weight gain, distress in relationships with partners, children, or parents, and can have a profoundly negative effect on work and school.

I naturally feel empathetic towards others. I am fascinated by people, what they have been through and the resiliency that they have developed as a result. I relate the strengths that I see in my clients to my clients, helping build up their self-esteem and confidence. One of the most gratifying aspects about therapy is helping people identify what they like about themselves and observing their self-confidence blossom.

We at the Bay Area Center for Adolescents understand that adolescence can be a difficult time for preteens, teens, young adults, and parents. On the one hand, adolescents are learning to manage life on their own and wanting more independence, but on the other hand, they may not be prepared for the responsibilities of life or realizing the consequences of their actions. We work with adolescents and their families to navigate this difficult time while helping adolescents to become independent, but still maintain the relationship with family.
The Bay Area Center for Adolescents is a group of providers who all know how to connect with adolescents and their families and provide effective therapy.
