Erika Hadinata, LMFT 98997: Lately, life’s just felt… off. Maybe you’re feeling disconnected—from yourself, your partner, or even your faith. The anxiety, the self-doubt, the relationship tension—it’s all starting to pile up. And now you’re wondering, Is this just a rough patch, or something more? You want to feel grounded again, to stop second-guessing yourself, and to have real peace—emotionally and spiritually. Here’s the thing: you don’t have to figure it out alone.

I specialize in working with children, teens, and young adults, focusing on emotional regulation, trauma processing, and alleviating anxiety. My approach involves play therapy for younger clients, helping them navigate big emotions, build resilience, and develop coping skills. For teens and young adults, I employ cognitive behavioral therapy to enhance their understanding of the interplay between thoughts, behaviors, and feelings, empowering them to initiate positive change. Additionally, I incorporate somatic and mindfulness techniques across all age groups.

Are you feeling tired, depressed, anxious? Have you ever felt as though you were too depressed to even get out of bed? It’s easy for our negative thoughts to consume us. This is because our brains have a hardwired negativity bias that helped our ancestors survive. For this reason, we are left with brains that often focus on the negative, while minimizing the positive aspects of our lives. It can seem like our brains cut out the positive components of our being, like a deleted scene from a movie.

You might find yourself caught in the same painful patterns—overthinking, disconnecting from your emotions, or struggling to express your needs in relationships. Maybe you're carrying old wounds that still shape how you see yourself and others. You want to understand yourself on a deeper level, to feel more present and connected, and to move beyond the stories that keep you feeling stuck. Therapy can be a space to slow down, explore your inner world, and develop new ways of relating to yourself and those around you.

I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship for healing the wounds of the past and the present. In order to understand the complexities of problems nested in cultural beliefs and values in the individuals’ life, I use a culturally sensitive approach to support individuals in navigating their experiences. I strive to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals to express and process their emotions. Therapy is a unique experience and I believe that finding the right fit is extremely important. My clinical approach would depend on the person and presenting issue that is brought into the therapy session.

Therapy is hard! But it is easier when you feel a true partnership with your therapist. My goal is to be a trusted ally, working with you to meet your specific goals. My clients tell me that they appreciate my straight forward and compassionate style, and kids and teens tell me they get my sense of humor. I have been working in the helping profession for over a decade, and can help you in understanding how to talk to your child so they can hear you, in working with your teenager to navigate adolescence and young adulthood, or in discovering what is keeping you stuck in a rut instead of chasing your dreams.

Thank you for checking out my therapy services. It would be an honor to support you on this therapy journey. Here's a little bit about me and my approach to therapy. When you come into therapy, I take the time to understand the whole you, not just your diagnosis or symptoms. We look at all areas of your life and see what needs to be addressed, supported, and adjusted. When working with couples, I also want to understand the couple as a unit and as individuals and not focus only on the problem. Often communication issues are at the forefront of couples issues. Which we can unpack and understand together.

I kept my office open during the COVID Crisis but when it ended people did not want to come to an office. I simi-retired & work through Zoom. I have lowered my fee to reflect the benefit of working online. While it is not my preferred way of working with clients, it allows me to continue to work. I left Saddleback Church where I was the Pastor of Pastoral Care for 17+years. I've been a licensed marriage & family counselor for 35+ years. I respect the fact that everyone needs to make a personal decision about their faith but I do approach therapy using Christian perspectives & values.

Over the years, I have found that people have an innate sense of resiliency that they can tap into, but need guidance to find it. During the therapeutic process I strive to nurture this sense as my clients grow, heal, cultivate creativity, and thrive in life’s many journeys. We all need to feel connected and heard, and we each deserve a therapist that is truly interested in us and has our best interests at heart. I truly believe this is an essential component of therapy. It takes courage to ask for help and I applaud you for taking the first step.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
