Online therapy in California / Feeling full of worry, despair, or emotionally charged is no way to live – and it can be really paralyzing. You may find yourself trying everything in your power to prevent the worst from happening. Or, feeling stuck and dissatisfied with life, your family, and your relationships. I get that it can feel hopeless trying to create change on your own only to find that you’re still not where you want to be. I am trained to help you overcome panic attacks, anxiety, depression and personality disorders – or how to manage your relationship with someone with a personality disorder.

Do you have irrational fears that others don’t understand? Are you seeing red flags in a little one that you care about? Or Are you just trying to figure life out? Whatever the issue, after 11 years as a psychotherapist, I’m confident we can figure it out together. If you feel that you haven’t arrived to your best self then let’s figure out why and get to work. It’s okay if you feel scared or think it’s impossible. It isn’t. We can’t let your past or the problems of tomorrow rob you of the joy of today. I get that you may have life situations that therapy can’t’ fix, but we can help you focus your energy on what you can control.

I am trained in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and love working with individuals and couples. I believe that everyone desires connection and wants to be heard. I also believe actually receiving it and having a desire are vastly different. Most of us find the "one," then life happens, careers kick off, kids, and before we know it the connection has been lost. We feel stuck, lost, and like it's impossible to get it back to that feeling. My job is to help you to identify those stuck places and develop new experiences that propel you forward in the relationship and better equip you when similar feelings of disconnection arise.

I understand the apprehension in seeking therapy and counseling. I also understand the importance of obtaining therapy in a safe and non-judgmental environment. There are times when we all face a need to seek counsel and professional therapy with someone who is able to relate to your struggles. My clients are provided a safe and understanding environment; an environment where we are able to focus on "solutions". My experience includes working with children, teens and adolescents in the schools environment and in my private practice; teaching them positive coping skills to address anger management issues.

Saying affirmations regularly helps our brain create positive responses to different circumstances. Here is one of my favorites: "Sometimes you have to let go of the picture of what you thought life would be like & learn to find the joy in the story you are actually living" (Rachel Marie Martin). Welcome to insight, awareness & self discovery! I have worked in behavioral & medical health care for over 20 years, working in depth with mental health, substance, end of life, crisis management, bereavement, the homeless.

Although my work is rooted in evidenced based psychotherapy, I provide a different approach and perspective to therapy that includes spirituality, energy work, clinical hypnosis, and clinical psychology. This approach helps to listen to the subconscious, clear energy blocks and find the deeper meaning in life's experiences. I specialize in helping to bring the mind, body and spiritual aspect of being into therapy; a place to clear and journey from within to connect the past with the present. When you start from within, it increases the capacity to navigate the complexities of what is going on externally and relationally.

Just because we have been going through life in survival mode does not mean we should have to. We also do not have to go through life challenges alone. Seeking help is not always easy, especially when we are feeling uncertain, lost, or defeated. At times, people need some extra support to process things with, manage difficult emotions, and be comfortable in our own skin. My role as a therapist is to listen, guide, and to help you navigate through life’s challenges. My goal is to teach you healthy coping skills that will enhance current, new and past relationships. Therapy is a collaborative journey to help you move forward.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
