Divorce can feel like losing not only a relationship, but pieces of yourself. Even when surrounded by supportive friends or family, many women silently carry grief, shame, loneliness, confusion, and emotional exhaustion long after the legal process is over. I know this both professionally and personally. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a woman who has walked through divorce myself, I created the R.I.S.E. Women’s Divorce Recovery Group to provide a safe, compassionate space where women can heal in community—not isolation.

I believe it is such a privilege to be able to sit with people daily and hear their stories. As a therapist I work hard to create an environment where you can be real and honest about who you are and feel safe. I will listen, and validate, but I will also challenge you to grow. I find Joy in helping my clients to get clear about who they want to be and working with them to get there. We get there through a lot of self exploration and reflection. When we have a better understanding of why we do what we do, we will have more success in changing our negative patterns.

Talk therapy isn't enough and you're having a tough time containing your feelings, thoughts, urges and physical sensations. It’s spilling out into your personal and professional relationships and moving you further away from the life you imagined. Panic, grief and shame have you holding back, making it impossible to risk or rest. You are willing to work, just don't know where to start. You're realizing you need experienced support to not only heal and accept your tender parts, but also real tools you can put into action to self-regulate, transform and be able to grow through this! You want to get better and you will.

Choosing to get help is a sometimes difficult and courageous decision, especially in these difficult times. As of March 2020, I have begun doing telehealth. I will try to help you to feel as comfortable as possible from our first contact. I know that the biggest compliment I can receive is to be told how “real” clients find me to be, and how understood they feel. I have been in practice in Redlands for more than 25 years, and I utilize various techniques, tailoring my interventions to meet the client’s needs. I believe that it is the relationship between the client and therapist that has the most to do with growth.

I help people whose nervous systems have been hijacked to perform, provide, or mask. You could be a high achiever (entrepreneur, healthcare professional, competitive athlete), an adult child of emotionally immature parents (people-pleaser, codependent), or a neurodivergent person (ADHD/ASD) who struggles with feeling constantly overwhelmed and alone. All three groups share common experiences: the compulsive need to predict others' reactions for fear of disapproval as well as making the exhaustive efforts to stay carefully composed while mounting resentment threatens to break through.

You’ve done therapy before, but you’re ready for deeper work that actually changes your relationships, not just helps you cope. On the outside, your life looks put together; you’re capable, reliable, the one others depend on. On the inside it's a different story, you’re tired of feeling unseen, overextended, and disconnected from your own needs. Most of my clients come to me after trying therapy before and realizing they’re ready for deeper, more effective work. I work with insightful adults ready to break patterns rooted in codependency, complex trauma, or depression to build boundaries, confidence, and gain clarity.

Life can be quite an experience. Sometimes it goes along smoothly. We feel pretty happy and content. Other times it can become uncertain, even overwhelming. Handling all of the pressures and trying to find balance can become daunting. We may not do things as well as we used to and begin to feel that life is a struggle just to get through. Having support which allows you to find new and creative solutions can be just what is needed to help you get back on track.

You're stuck in a pattern you can't break. A life transition that has left you uncertain about who you are and what comes next. A marriage that has survived something painful and is trying to find its way back. A divorce and the grief that follows. You want things to be different — in your relationships, in yourself — but you're not sure where to start. You're ready to do the work and figure things out.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
