I was a middle school teacher for ten years. I enjoyed working with children and adolescents more than I did grading papers. I became a psychologist to help children and their families live healthier, more productive lives. I approach psychotherapy first from the perspective that insight into oneself provides then the power to choose and to change. If you don't understand what is going on, you are unlikely to make changes. Secondly, the power to change is enhanced by learning and applying better coping skills. Insight and tools provide a growth experience.
I am known for my work with children and adolescents. I take a broad, environmental approach to my work. That is, in the process of helping the child I am working with the parents, school and pediatrician to maximize the impact of the psychotherapy.
I have been in private practice for 30 years and was previously a middle school teacher for 10 years. The experience that both professions have given me have been invaluable in working with families to help their children and adolescents perform at a higher level.
