I’m so glad you’re showing up for yourself. You may have arrived here today because you feel a nudge in your spirit to lean into healing and growth. You realize the weight of the life experiences you’ve been carrying are hindering you, stealing your peace and joy, and disrupting your connection with yourself and the people you care for most. You are ready to explore the root causes, and you want support as you learn and unlearn, and become more yourself. Shame has eaten away at your insecurities and wounds. You know you can’t do it alone, but you feel alone. I want you to know: You are not alone. We were created for connection.

Seeking treatment can seem like a daunting task, from choosing the perfect therapist who also accepts your insurance, to doing the actual therapeutic work. My advice: filter your search by insurance, location first and go from there.

Sometimes life can get complicated. We can get overwhelmed by people, work, and life events, and it seems this bombardment of people, places and things, never lets up. We do our best to manage it all, but in the end we are still emotionally distressed, and sometimes severely. The old ways of coping with it all no longer work. It's time to STOP FOCUSING ON THE PROBLEM AND START FOCUSING ON THE CHANGE. It's time to take your life back and be in control of your well-being. TIME TO BEGIN CRAFTING AND ACTUALIZING LIFE'S MEANING (C.A.L.M. THERAPY)

Therapy is an art, not a science. Since every person is a unique individual, therapy will vary depending on the persons involved. Hence, there can be no one approach to therapy which works for everyone. To facilitate change, different techniques may be used. However, the forging of a therapeutic alliance is essential for change. Research has shown that a successful outcome in therapy depends on this. In humanistic psychology, emphasis is placed on self-actualization. A propensity to self-actualize is presumed to exist in all persons. Karen Horney made the following analogy to illustrate this phenomenon.

I understand the importance of needing to feel understood and seen. When therapy is successful, we often will experience a greater sense of spaciousness inside ourselves, freedom from our own judgments, and are reminded that confronting our pain won’t destroy us. The goal is not a short-term fix but instead a long-term shift that brings forth feelings of empowerment, resiliency, and a confidence that our brains and our lives can change. As a consequence of shifting our relationship to ourselves and to our pain, the uncomfortable symptoms often associated with anxiety, trauma, and depression begin to dissolve and loosen their grip.

With well over a decade’s worth of experience, and meeting clients at various moments in their lives, I find myself being more of a guide in the therapeutic process than anything else. As a therapist, I take pride in creating a space where clients can explore, heal and process their thoughts and feelings in a safe, welcoming, and encouraging environment. At my core, I am a relational therapist that will bring in a Strength-Based approach and incorporate mindfulness into sessions as well. It is important for me to meet my clients where they are, and collaborate with them so they get the most out of their time in therapy.

In a world filled with constant pressures and expectations, we can feel overwhelmed. We find ourselves caught in a web of emotions, feeling stuck in the mud. And with each step we are pulled in deeper into the confusion, grief, and despair - disconnected from purpose and isolated in the struggle. We yearn to be seen and heard, to find meaning, and hope. I believe deep change is possible and recognize the profound impact of being witnessed and understood. I specialize in supporting men and couples who are feeling desperate and exhausted, and are willing to keep moving.

I’m a queer therapist working on uplifting my community and embodying the idea that therapy should be a relief. I practice with an eclectic style, meaning I believe the techniques used should be fitted to the person rather than taking a "one size fits all" approach. My focus is on queer adults who need support in life transitions, processing trauma, navigating the world, and those who are seeking a safe place to explore. I specialize in gender affirming care and psychoanalytic explorations. I provide trauma-informed, sex-positive, and kink-friendly perspectives because therapy should always be judgment free.

I provide psychotherapy services to clients to help them explore their lives and find meaning in their relationships. I work to empower and encourage clients to be more self-aware, explore their feelings, and improve their ability to navigate their experiences. I like to explore a variety of therapeutic modalities to find what best suits each client as every client is different and one size does not fit all when it comes to treatment. I like to listen to my clients and ensure that what I'm hearing is what they are saying. I also like to let them know they have choices, especially since it's their well-being that we are discussing.

I believe we all have the capacity to grow and experience joy. Access to this capacity is usually closer than we think. Talking to someone who is trained to HEAR you can unblock what is holding you back. Call me and we can talk about finding the answers within yourself. For the last 20 years I have had experience in helping people overcome many forms of suffering. Call me and take your first step toward feeling better, attending to things that are meaningful to you, and feeling whole again.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
