I specialize in the treatment of insomnia, circadian rhythm disorders, and other sleep disorders. Sleep difficulties are often overlooked and yet they undermine our mood, productivity, creativity, memory, and overall health. Whether you recently started having difficulty with sleep or it's been a long standing problem, there are highly effective treatments that do NOT involve the use of medications. In fact, if you are currently taking medications for sleep but would like to reduce or eliminate them, I can help. If anxious thoughts are interfering with your sleep, we can find ways to reduce the impact that anxiety has on your sleep.

I work with clients to help them tap into their own inner wisdom, to recognize and build upon their strengths, to propel themselves beyond behaviors and feelings about themselves that limit growth and expression, to become their authentic and best selves.  Experience has taught me that deep connection to one's full range of emotion is key to lasting change---confusion becomes clarity, self-criticism is transformed by self-compassion, reactivity yields to soothing self-regulation, isolation is replaced with a sense of belonging and life can be lived to its fullest.

Hello and welcome. I know this is hard. It is always difficult for a proud person to seek help. It is much more harmful to not reach out, I commend you. Human beings are social animals, we need and desire the comfort of one another. How we meet those needs can be complex. My job as your therapist is to assist you in becoming the best person you can be. I provide individual, relationship, and family therapy. I have a humanistic approach, allowing you to be you. I accept you as you are. Therapy is not to change the person it is to change the way the person perceives themselves.

Most people have challenges with self-worth, emotions and relationships—whether with partners, family, friends, or colleagues. Over my 40 year practice, I’ve found that these struggles often stem from trauma, relational conflicts, anxiety, and coping patterns (avoidance, depression, substance abuse, explosive anger). We can work together toward change. Real change comes from an intentional, sustained focus on experiencing emotions and insight. My work is grounded in psychodynamic principles, Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP), and Attachment Theory.

My practice is based on an integrative model that privileges contemporary relational theory and practice. I work with a range of issues with individual adults, couples and families, and have a particular interest in working with artists, writers, and intellectuals. When choosing a psychotherapist, it is important to find a good fit - someone you feel comfortable with. Psychotherapy is at best a healing and transformational journey that allows you to have healthier and more satisfying relationships with yourself and others. A good relationship with your therapist is the most important factor in a successful outcome.

My work has ignited my passion to work with people who live life through the lens of multiple cultures: the culture you might be born into and your ever evolving one. If you find yourself in a different country or environment, whether its creating a better opportunity for your family, education, or professionally based. Experiencing confusion and feelings of not belonging, isn’t uncommon.Being in an interracial or intercultural relationship adds its own layer of obstacles and difficulties. You might notice that your experiences through the world differ, and even your life expectations.

Are you someone who grew up in a culture or community where mental health wasn't acknowledged or understood? Have you ever felt unseen, misunderstood, or like you had to carry your struggles alone? Maybe you hold yourself to incredibly high standards—and still feel like it’s never enough. You might find yourself putting others’ needs ahead of yours, even when it leaves you feeling drained or overwhelmed. Even with all you’ve accomplished, do you still feel anxious, on edge, or like something is missing?

Together, we’ll explore the feelings that may be difficult to sit with and address any disconnection from the person you know yourself to be. In our work, you’ll find a warm, non-judgmental space to unpack challenges, identify your needs, and let go of old narratives that no longer serve you.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
