I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can show up fully as yourself without any judgment.
As a Latina therapist with lived experience of ADHD, I understand how culture, identity, neurodiversity, and relationships can all shape the way we see ourselves and connect with others.I work with adult individuals and couples who want to strengthen their sense of self-worth, build emotional awareness, and improve how they communicate and connect in their relationships. Whether you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply ready for a deeper understanding of yourself, therapy can be a place to explore and grow.

Welcome. I know what it feels like to be lost inside yourself — and what it means to find your way back. I specialize in working with teenagers and young adults navigating anxiety, depression, and the particular weight of feeling different. I also work with parents trying to reach those same teenagers, adults moving through major life transitions, and couples finding their way back to each other.
My own journey through adolescence, career transitions, and motherhood shape the kind of clinician I am: someone who isn't afraid to face the difficult parts of life while also still bringing genuine warmth and presence into the room.

My ideal client struggles with low self-esteem, self-doubt, and negative self-talk, often rooted in past experiences. These internal blocks keep them from reaching their potential in personal, professional, or creative areas. They deeply desire to feel empowered, build confidence, and take meaningful action toward their goals. They seek support to overcome limiting beliefs, develop resilience, and create a life they feel proud of—one where they trust themselves and feel in control.

Hi, I’m Evelyn Banuelos. My ideal clients are individuals who may have experienced trauma, abusive relationships, or significant loss and are seeking a steady, supportive space to heal and move forward. Stress can show up as anxiety, depression, substance use, or relationship struggles. These experiences can feel even more complicated when shaped by cultural expectations, system involvement, or past instability. I offer a supportive space to help you process what you’ve been through, find relief, and move forward with more clarity and confidence. As cliche as it sounds, you're definitely not alone.

“Sometimes the bravest and most important thing you can do is just show up.” Brene Brown -Putting yourself first can be scary. Showing up in life can be overwhelming but I believe showing up is half the battle and from there we can create a collaborative therapeutic relationship to help you on your path of healing and self-discovery. I integrate principles of psychodynamic, attachment, mindfulness and humanistic theoretical approaches into my work. I believe that by looking at events and relationships in our past can help us understand patterns in our present that no longer serve us or have made us feel stuck.

This right now, finding a therapist, is probably not fun, in fact, it may be a very uncomfortable experience. Hopefully right now is the most difficult part on this path. If you are already browsing therapists then it would seem you're at least contemplating some kind of transformation. Change does not have to be scary, it can also be relieving, rewarding, and a source of achievement. I believe personal growth is for everyone, no matter where you are in your life. Whether you identified a problem, struggle in a relationship, or just want to experience therapy, I'm here.

You grew up navigating two worlds, two languages, and two versions of yourself. You learned early that love and silence could live in the same house. You have carried the weight of family expectations, cultural pressure, and the quiet exhaustion of never quite belonging in either world — and you have been doing it largely alone.
You are not broken. You are someone who has been doing the hard work of being human in circumstances that asked more of you than they should have.
This is a space where you don't have to translate yourself. You are welcome here exactly as you are.

I became a psychologist because I am interested in people's stories. What has happened? What is it that makes you so sad, so anxious, so stressed? I believe that working together we can make sense of your story and your pain, and find ways to alleviate it. I have been in practice in Pasadena for 39 years. I specialize in childhood trauma, and work with children, adolescents, adults and elders.

You’re doing everything “right”, but still feel disconnected, anxious, or on edge. Maybe the pressure to succeed has made it hard to slow down, be present, or access your emotions. Maybe your relationships feel strained or you’re realizing that patterns you’ve carried for years are holding you back.

Almost as good a therapist as chatGPT but I waste less water than a data center! Hit me up if you’re a high conflict couple and you’re fighting too much, or an individual and you’re fighting with (parts of?) yourself (or others?) in your head too much. I’m foundationally "humanistic-existentialist", meaning I join you on your journey with curiosity/authenticity/empathy, and help you become more confidently you through a relational process. But I'm trained in lots of acronyms: Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR) Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
