Many are navigating the impact of trauma, struggling with anxiety or depression, working through addiction or recovery, or feeling stuck in unhealthy relationship patterns. I also work with individuals exploring identity, including those within the LGBTQIA+ community, who are seeking a safe, affirming space to process their experiences. Often, my clients are insightful and motivated but feel overwhelmed, emotionally reactive, or unsure how to move forward.

I believe change is difficult for most people. We often get stuck in certain patterns of behavior and find it difficult to move forward and heal. Every individual has the ability to change within themselves and it is my role to help guide people along the path of change. It is my goal as a Psychologist to help people capitalize on their strengths and teach them new ways of thinking, behaving, and coping with certain issues. I believe every child, teenager, adult, and family unit are unique and require an special/individualized approach to help them achieve their full potential.

From the outside, your teen or young adult might look “fine,” but you’re noticing changes—more withdrawal, mood swings, anxiety, or stress that doesn’t seem to let up. Maybe conversations feel harder lately, or you’re not sure how to help without things turning into conflict. You want to support them, but it’s not always clear what they need. I work primarily with teens and young adults, creating a space where they can feel comfortable opening up at their own pace. I also understand how important it is to keep parents involved in a supportive, respectful way.

I believe that each child has individual needs, therefore a personalized evaluation helps tailor a treatment plan that focuses on his or her strengths. My goal is always to assist the child in gaining the tools necessary to be successful.

Talking about problems can be difficult, not to mention taking action to solve them. The change process unfolds when you are listened to and understood. With warmth, humor, interest, and respect, I will help you focus on action steps as well as just talking as you make and maintain contact with your goals and also with your hopes and dreams. To do so I will also help you examine any life patterns, active in the present or originating from the past, that contribute to feeling stuck. Assisting you to bring mindfulness, commitment, and self-compassion into the change process will be my role.

My time as a guide in the Alaskan Rainforest taught me many truths: the thrill of wilderness air, the sacred language of native art, and, perhaps most notably, the realization that all life is inseparably interwoven. As a clinician, I believe that each aspect of a person - their spiritual, mental, physical, and social selves - requires nurturing, and that strength in each individual dimensions uplifts the others - just as the neighboring trees in a forest work harmoniously for one another's good.

Life is hard, and sometimes feels impossible to navigate. You want to feel better and discover and build your ideal life. You want to enjoy life and be successful. But there are barriers that keep you from this life you desire. Perhaps you find yourself overwhelmed, unmotivated, struggling to make decisions, unable to control your emotions, falling behind in school, work, or other obligations. You remember a time when anxiety, depression, and painful emotions weren’t “the norm” … but those days feel like a distant memory. Don’t you wish you had the tools to change that? Life doesn’t have to stay this way.

My aim is to help you address problematic ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving that contribute to greater anxiety, depression, stress, and insomnia/sleep issues. The goal is to assist you in reaching a position of appreciation for your genuine self (for you are the perfect you!) and an acceptance of the events that occur in your life. I would be honored to take part in your journey of discovering the narratives which potentially distort reality and lead to discomfort, diminished self-worth, or other barriers to attaining contentment.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
