You have the right to feel complete, alive, and engaged. Sometimes things can be so overwhelming that it's impossible to imagine a solution, but no matter how stuck you may feel, you can feel better. I often work with people who arrive feeling confused, and who feel better once they have identified the source of their discomfort. We will work together to help you find clarity. We will focus on your strengths and your gifts, and we will work to develop your skills as an advocate for yourself. We will also work on the skills you need to manage anxiety, mood shifts, and difficult relationships.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from the person you want to be? I specialize in helping children, teens, adults, and neurodivergent individuals who are navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-esteem challenges, trauma, and the complex experiences of adoption and foster care. I work with adult clients who experience a variety of concerns related to unhealthy or poor coping skills, life transitions, and finding personal meaning. Whether the concern feels minute or overwhelming, I believe that most concerns can be addressed, reversed, or reduced by changing the way that one thinks about the situation and implementing new strategies of problem solving. If a client is willing to change, and persistent in their efforts towards changing, they can make their goals a reality.

The prospect of healing trauma or moving through big life transitions can seem daunting. When we’ve experienced trauma, it can rob us of our sense of self, creativity, contentment and ability to take healthy risks. At Embrace the Multiplicity Counseling, I provide you a safe, non-judgmental space where you’ll learn skills to build resiliency and help you reconnect with the parts of yourself that grief and trauma have obscured. It is an honor to be a part of your path to self-discovery and wholeness.

With over 35 years of experience working with individuals and couples, I draw upon a number of therapeutic modalities to help you in your personal growth. Puzzled by some of the things that you do that don't make logical sense? We will explore why they make emotional sense. Though many times you may not feel connected to your resiliency or trust that it is even present, our work is meant to promote accessing more of your own inner resources. A person needs to address issues not just mentally, but also emotionally. Emotional wounds need to be healed emotionally.

Do you feel lost on your path? Our life's journey is not always as clear as we would like it to be. Sometimes we have doubts about work, family life or relationships. You realize that life seems off balance and wonder how to fix things. As we hurry through life we can lose touch with our authentic Self and symptoms of depression/anxiety may appear. Valleys are a natural part of life but you do not need to suffer through these alone. As you reach out for help you will come to realize that it is during these times exactly, when we grow the most - I will be here for you, to listen and give you the safe space to figure things out.

Are you anxious, always irritated or feel guilty for no reason? Do mood swings cause problems in your life? Do you keep making the same mistakes over and over? Sadly, many people manage the symptoms with prescriptions, street drugs, or alcohol, often resulting in making things worse. These treatments are meant to be temporary, and never really solve the problem. As the drugs become less effective their lives spiral out of control. These people feel increasingly anxious, hopeless and finally start pushing away friends and loved ones. Isolation becomes the norm, and loneliness takes over. But it doesnt have to be this way!

What I have learned, in my years working in mental health, is that my fellow human beings are resilient, creative, and strong. I have learned that we often do not realize our own strength and power. I believe that each of us has within us an internal wisdom. I want to help you locate that wisdom and bring it forth into your life. My experience is in a variety of outpatient settings and primarily in community mental health. I have worked with people from all walks of life. Each person I meet with is a unique individual. There is no one way to approach the challenges that come up in our lives.

Therapy is life changing and enriching as you raise your awareness and learn new ways to mange your life and emotions. I believe one of the most courageous things a person can do is begin to understand their own story and the challenges that have brought them to therapy for guidance and support. In my 14 years of professional experienced that my clients have and demonstrate the capacity which all of us harbor which allows for healing, feeling better, cultivating fulfilling relationships and breaking through stuck points. Sometimes untangling a big knot takes a fresh pair of eyes.

Among the greatest gifts you can give yourself are awareness and acceptance. One of the biggest responsibilities our mind has is to make predictions based on our understanding of the world around us. These predictions can often lead us to repeat the same mistakes, or fail to take hold of things we desperately want. Are you someone who feels the need to make a change, but feels lost or overwhelmed with how? Do you feel out of place in your family, or with your friends? Are you working too hard at school, in your relationship, at work or with your children and feel like you don't have much to show for your efforts?

I'm a faith-based Christian therapist that has specialized training in couples counseling, trauma, and substance use disorders. The ideal couples clients are those that have a desire to gain practical communication skills to enhance their relationship and decrease conflicts. I utilize the Gottman method to help learn skills necessary for this. I have training in multiple trauma therapies which meet each client's need, greatly increasing positive outcomes. When working with those that have substance issues I work with the whole person, not just the use. I believe in a decision making model for better outcomes.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 85711?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
