I enjoy helping people identify and overcome the roadblocks that prevent them from moving forward. I have met more and more individuals with OCD who need support in addressing the obstacles and mindsets that promote OCD behaviors. Help is available, and with focus and intention, change is inevitable. At NOCD, my team and I specialize in providing evidence-based treatment for people with OCD. Our deep understanding of the intricacies of OCD enables us to properly diagnose and treat it. Additionally, we have received intensive training in ERP therapy—the gold standard treatment for OCD.

My ideal clients are trauma survivors, those navigating anxiety, depression, or grief—feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from themselves. They need a warm, compassionate therapist who truly understands how trauma impacts both mind and body, paired with practical, evidence-based tools like EMDR and Somatic Experiencing. Ultimately, they want to reclaim their lives, process and release old wounds, rebuild trust, and move from merely surviving to thriving with genuine resilience and empowerment.

We know ourselves through what we've survived and how we've prevailed. We accumulate invisible scars and wounds over time, and do our best to keep moving through heartbreak, betrayal, loss, and trauma. Often that pushing through can make us feel stuck, repeating the same patterns over and over. These are the universal human experiences that I work with every day: from facing a traumatic event or painful relationship, to figuring out how to move through high school to adulthood. I work with people who have experienced trauma and are struggling to navigate challenging transitions, and if you're ready, I'd like to work with you.

My ideal client is a night owl at heart — someone who feels different or misunderstood, yet is ready to grow. They are looking for a different experience with therapy. They may struggle with anxiety, self-doubt, or patterns that keep them stuck, but what they want most is clarity and change. They’re seeking more than comfort: they want a therapist who offers compassion with challenge, so real transformation can happen.

Now Accepting New Clients Love’s great… until it’s not. If your relationship feels more “meh” than magic, I’m here to help. I’m an experienced couple’s therapist who’s not afraid to dive into the messy stuff—miscommunication, hurt feelings, awkward silences, and all. Together, we’ll figure out what’s really going on beneath the surface. I believe great relationships come down to two things: picking well and treating each other better than average. If defensiveness, fear of rejection, or just plain frustration are getting in the way, we’ll tackle those head-on—with clarity, heart, and maybe a few laughs along the way.

In today's world many of us find ourselves struggling with emotional overload. As life becomes inundated by negative experiences through media representation and personal experience. We may notice a loss of motivation or even possibly a loss of positive experiences. Eventually we may loose hope in who we are and who we wish to become. When overloaded by strong emotions, hopelessness begins to creep in. Hopelessness can feel unbearable as it restricts functioning and ability to enjoy life. Our happiness and excitement can quickly become extinguished by the anger, fear, sorrow, and intense sadness we feel. I have found myself caught.

I’m Dr. Brian Hansen — a psychologist, executive coach, and musician. For more than a decade, I’ve worked with people facing trauma, anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, parenting challenges, and the complicated struggles that come with identity, faith, and relationships. My approach is practical but deeply personal. I draw from cognitive and behavioral tools, existential exploration, and creative practices like music, writing, and art. I believe healing isn’t one-size-fits-all — it’s a mix of science, grit, and honest connection. Teaching and public speaking are parts of my work I love, because they let me bring humor and authenticity.

I work with individuals and couples who want to understand themselves more deeply—exploring identity, healing from relational or cultural trauma, or untangling patterns that once worked for them but now feel limiting. Many of the clients I support are BIPOC and/or LGBTQIA2S+ individuals who grew up adapting to environments that didn’t fully accept or understand them. My clients also want more than insight alone—they’re willing to explore new ways of relating to themselves and the world. I help them honor survival parts and explore new ways of being that feel freeing and authentic.

I lead my practice with the core values of empowerment, self compassion, and personal growth. I help adults and young adults navigate experiences related to trauma, mood disorders, and anxiety by providing a space that is non judgmental and safe, and - when appropriate - light hearted. I believe everyone has an inner knowing; my role is to support you as you process your emotions and thoughts and find the answers you already have within yourself. Having been a therapy client for years myself, I can say that healing can be a journey that has its challenges, and is also rewarding and a huge relief.

Welcome to your therapy journey! I get that it's scary, vulnerable, overwhelming, etc. to pick a therapist. My style of therapy is very positive and very skills based. I want to give my clients some skills, some positivity, a safe landing space to work through their thoughts and emotions, and then get them out the door and living their best life. I give resources and homework between sessions and collaboratively work with my clients to set and meet their goals. I want my clients to feel empowered and much of my focus is on building empowerment.

How can I find a therapist in 84120?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
