Finding a good fit in a counselor is essential, so be picky! You don’t have to be in crisis to seek support. Sometimes, you simply recognize that your current best isn’t where you want to stay, and you’re ready for a space to think clearly, talk honestly, and level up. I work with people who are self-aware, motivated, and ready to take full ownership of their lives. In our work together, I’m not here to judge or listen passively. I’m here to partner with you. We’ll look at what’s working, what’s not, and where you might be getting in your own way—so you can move forward with intention and confidence.

My ideal client is one who may or may not understand their problematic behaviors and thoughts that keep them in the same dysfunctional patterns who would like to make positive changes with the help of a professional! Their goals would include getting out of the rut they’re in and moving past repeated negative thinking habits. They want to make better choices for themselves and their loved ones and have successful relationships where they can use healthy coping skills and learn to problem solve on their own.

Are you a human with the desire to process and grow, looking for someone to hold space for you as you journey through your life? Are you a survivor of a traumatic past you want to process and heal from? Are you in a tough relationship or marriage you need to talk through? Are you a caregiver, provider, or parent who might be experiencing burn out? Do you struggle each day to get out of bed much less life live? Do you experience things no one understands, and feel like you can't talk about any of it not to mention your emotions (or lack thereof)? Do you struggle with worry, shame, and guilt and want the freedom not to?

Do you often feel like you’re never doing enough or that you’re falling short, no matter how hard you try? Many college students and adults carry the impact of past experiences or trauma, showing up as perfectionism, people-pleasing, excessive guilt, and critical self-talk. I help clients feel less stuck by reconnecting with their values, building self-compassion, and creating a more grounded, authentic way forward.

I am passionate about helping people learn to use "curiosity instead of judgment", "give themselves time and grace", and to recognize and understand "that no one can do better until they know better". These three principles have allowed me to help many individuals make life-altering changes at their own pace without feeling overwhelmed or pressured. Many people live their lives attempting to avoid challenging themselves due to fears of failure or letting others down. This can lead to feelings of helplessness, hopelessness, being stuck, anxiousness, depression, and regret. It doesn't have to be this way.

The effectiveness of EMDR has been established by rigorous research. EMDR has proven to be one of the most effective treatments for anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, chronic pain, relationship issues and more; surpassing other common modalities, even CBT. Many individuals are frustrated with the lack of progress made through traditional therapy. By contrast, EMDR is proven to quickly heal issues with lasting results. I have current openings.

At times, life is not what we had envisioned for ourselves. The many twists and turns that come our way can leave us conflicted about the next step to take. Whatever you are grappling with, allow me to walk with you through this season of your life. I can help you get to a place where you feel in control and can fly on your own again. The journey to a better life can be challenging, though, taken day by day and leaning on those around us, life can be beautiful again.

Hello, my name is Serenity. My primary goal as a therapist is to offer a safe space for you. My hope is that you always feel heard and supported and that our sessions help expand your capacity to improve your life and the relationships that matter most to you. Beyond normal talk therapy, I have found there can be many benefits to creative exploration through music, art, singing, play, walking, or any other method you are comfortable with. I believe that people thrive when they feel encouraged, empowered, and socially connected.

You are here to find support for your child. Help them find a safe space to be heard and to grow. It seems like every time you try to help they won't listen to you or they don't say anything at all. You don't know what else to do. You feel like you have tried everything and nothing seems to work. So here you are. Looking for someone to help you understand them.

You might be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Maybe you're carrying the weight of past experiences, feeling stuck in relationships, questioning your identity, or moving through a life transition that’s stirred something inside. I work with a wide range of concerns—from trauma and anxiety to burnout, grief, or simply a desire to feel more like yourself. You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear “why” to begin. If something in you is asking for care, that’s enough.

Stuck again. And again. A cycle of negativity and hurt, or just overthinking that won’t stop. It's affecting the way you see yourself, and your relationships. It’s waging war on your peace. Every day I see people who do what felt impossible. People who reach inward and grasp at courage. People who find their personal power and use it. People who transform. If you’ve been stuck for a while, I believe you can find change. And peace. We’ll do it together.

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
