Sometimes you may wonder if everyone has it figured out except you. It happens when you’re completely overwhelmed and exhausted. You can only hold it together so long before your mind and body check out. You do what you can to feel like you’re living again, but most of it falls flat. Everything seems to take up so much energy, and the thought of starting only adds to the exhaustion. It feels like you are drowning and don't know which way to swim to the surface. You know things need to change, but you’re drained and don’t know where to start. Asking for help seems foreign, and let's face it, sometimes it feels weak. But it isn't.

The postpartum period and emotional experience of stepping into parenthood can sometimes feel debilitating. Even if we did important work to prepare for birth and plan for a growing family it can come as a shock to feel sadness, irritability, and isolation. If these are feelings you are carrying with you during the postpartum phase I know that there is also pressure to “be strong” often leading to you keeping these feelings to yourself. It’s not talked about in our society nearly enough, but your experience is common even among men. The notion that you are what’s flawed is wrong. What’s missing is adequate support.

Therapy is hard and is a brave step to take for yourself. Trusting a therapist to not only help but be with you as you navigate the hard is also challenging. I have been working as a mental health therapist for over 10 years in a variety of clinical settings and am well-versed in treating depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic pain or health issues, and working through difficult life events. While my dark sense of humor and directness tends to lend itself best to military, first responders, and health care workers, I am versatile and capable of with a variety of clients and client needs. Congratulations on taking a brave first step.

The choice to seek therapy services can be a difficult one. However, the challenges that motivate us towards change can become opportunities to create a deeper awareness of who we are, and who we wish to become. I believe we grow in connection to others, it’s in these relationships we learn the most about ourselves and what we want from our lives. I aim to co-create an attuned, safe, and collaborative relationship that supports your unique goals and individuality. I hope to accompany you through the discovery of your inherent resilience to pursue growth that enables you to live authentically and explore new possibilities.

I work with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, stress, life transitions, relationship concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, and self-esteem challenges. My approach is collaborative and client-centered, drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). Using these evidence-based approaches, I help clients identify unhelpful patterns, develop effective coping skills, strengthen emotional resilience, and create lasting, meaningful change.

I work with adults navigating current challenges by helping them understand how earlier experiences continue to shape their present-day lives and relationships. My training spans outpatient, inpatient, and psychiatric emergency settings, and my approach is humanistic and relational. Sessions are collaborative and exploratory rather than prescriptive. My aim is to support insight and self-understanding, creating a foundation from which more authentic, values-aligned choices can take shape.

If you’ve ever felt like something deeper is going on beneath the surface, and talking about it hasn’t fully helped, you’re not alone. You might feel anxious, disconnected, or stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand. Maybe you have trouble sleeping, feel emotionally numb, or find relationships harder than they “should” be. I offer EMDR, Equine-Assisted therapy, and Deep Brain Reorienting as effective modalities for treating trauma. I often see people who experience complex trauma and dissociative disorders. We may work together virtually or out with the horses. I work with adults, children, and adolescents.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
