Trying to figure out who you are? What your purpose is? Looking to improve relationships? Wholehearted living is a concept that I have adopted in the name of my practice and in the way I interact with each client. "It means cultivating courage, compassion, and connection and to think... I am enough... Yes I'm imperfect, vulnerable, and sometimes afraid but that doesn't change the truth that I am also brave and worthy of love and belonging" - B. Brown. I believe any person deserves to feel whole. This is a process of returning to yourself through excavation, unlearning, and remembering who we are.

Seeking therapy can be an intimidating experience. Hat’s off to you for starting the process! My strength is my practical approach to finding a means to change ways clients have been stuck in their lives. Often that means understanding how past hurts or trauma have influenced our current attitudes, beliefs and gut-level reactions. Other times it means working on changing what is happening in the present. I specialize in depression, anxiety, coping with stress, as well as treating those who have been victims of abuse, in childhood or adulthood. I also work with adoptive families. I am EMDR, level 2 trained.

Maybe a relationship doesn't feel right anymore. Or you've lost someone close to you. Perhaps you're torn about making a decision. Whatever you're facing, it may seem as if you'll never feel right again. It may seem as if no one understands who you are anymore, including you.

Struggling with life balance is a common experience that most of us women face at some point in our lives. There’s never enough time & there is only one of you. Sometimes we find ourselves wondering if we can keep it together just one more day. It’s hard to be successful when you feel burnt out, misunderstood, stuck at status quo, & like your relationships are strained to capacity. You need to know that it is possible to experience rest in your soul; that your life can be directed, meaningful & manageable.

I prefer clients who are motivated and open-minded above all other qualities. I have experience working with people who have a number of varying challenges, such as trauma (all kinds), anxiety, depression, grief, family discord, communication challenges, transitions, and adjustments to significant changes. Most people have goals to feel better, to experience more joy and peace in their lives. Some have specific goals like completing a project, or test, remaining on task without anxiety, for example. Overall, anyone who seeks therapy desires help with some sort of change in their current moods, habits, or state of mind.

The path to wellness includes many approaches to healing. You may need an open space for your frustrations to be heard or a neutral place to share your news and discuss treatment options. Perhaps these issues even lead you to question the meaning of life, your Spirituality, or your Religious background. My office is a peaceful place to address those concerns, to connect within, and to guide you on your journey to make meaning, no matter what your background is.

We all have our unique stories, and taking authorship of them allows us to understand and develop our identities, discover more effective ways of interacting with the world, and choose new paths to live happier and more meaningful lives. This may mean different things to each of us, but my goal as your counselor will be to learn about what is meaningful to YOU and collaborate with you to understand your past, find more peace and enjoyment in the present, and create a path to the future you want for yourself.

Pursuing counseling can often an uncomfortable experience. I have always believed that community and connection play an important role in not only getting through our trials but in life in general. After being diagnosed with anxiety and depression at a young age, and living through a number of traumatic events, I had a therapist who supported me and that I grew to really look up to. This is largely what inspired me to join the counseling field.

Hi, I am Carly! I have experience working with both individuals and couples. I particularly love working with couples as I put an emphasis on relationships and the importance they have in our life. I believe in the power of connection with others and that working together creates the best outcome in therapy and in life. I most often work from a solution focused perspective, but also pull from a positive psychology lens. I prefer a strength based approach that is going to help move you forward toward your life goals.

Let's be honest, therapy isn't the first choice for most people. If, however, you are in a place where this might seem like a good option, I'd appreciate the opportunity to work with you. Whether it is personal issues or you're having difficulties with your spouse, significant other, parent, or child(ren). Or, maybe you just need some support with a transition in life. I enjoy working with people from all walks and stages of life and while change is up to you, know that I'm willing to be in your corner along the way. In addition to myself, we have a team of 13 other providers ready and wiling to help in any way we can.

The therapeutic relationship has the potential to provide healing and support while offering a hopeful perspective to navigate difficulties and hurtful circumstances. I want to be invited into my clients' lives--to be given the privilege to experience their dreams and fears, joys and sorrows, triumphs and disappointments. I strive to provide a welcoming space for people to explore and make meaning of their relationships and experiences. Clients are given the freedom and safety to change themselves and their outlooks. I am trained in EMDR and feel comfortable working with clients with histories of abuse through a trauma lens.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Colorado Springs?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
