We all have our own negative stories that we tell or have about ourselves. You come to counseling to learn how to sit in joy and happiness. You don't come to counseling to learn about how to be depressed, anxious, or how to talk about yourself in a negative way. I value the therapeutic relationship, and together we will build a safe place, as I believe this is one of the key components to become the best version of yourself. In our time together, my goal and my hope is to assist you to re-author your story and learn how to sit in happiness versus the negative messages you tell yourself.

There are as many entry points for our suffering as there are ways out of it. For many people, what we have suffered and how we suffer are the best clues to how we can restore ourselves to lives of greater balance, ease, and happiness. I’m invested in helping you to discover what that journey looks like for you. I want you to feel supported and brave enough to honor your experiences, good and bad, and to pursue the changes that will lead to the life you deserve.

The cheating is no longer a secret - you both know, and it feels like nothing will ever be the same. It’s either therapy or a divorce. You feel like you’re drowning, but everybody else in your life is biased, so it’s hard to turn to them for advice. You each are feeling a roller coaster of emotions: you hate them, you love them, you want this marriage to be repaired, you’re ready to walk out the door this second, you’d do anything to save this relationship…all within five minutes. You don’t know how to make sense of all these emotions, but you need to make sure you make the right decision.

Modern! Absolutely non-judgmental! Funny...yes!? Therapy can be gritty, radiant, freeing, and humorous at times. I'm here to laugh alongside you if the moment arises, and hold space for the heavy times. My hope is to offer a place for you to share those words that sit in your mouth and feel too prickly to say out-loud. I use eclectic therapy; which means I use different types of counseling techniques based on your needs. I support everyone from where they are sitting in the moment; so our session could be task oriented or it may be driven by more of a traditional talk-therapy style. No judgements.

We often ignore the ways our body signals to us that we’re overloaded or nearing burnout. Whether it’s our own sense of responsibility, difficulty saying no and/or setting healthy boundaries, or a tendency toward perfectionism, many of us are challenged in finding a balance between caring for others and caring for ourselves. Much like the safety precautions given before flying, I believe that we all should put on our own oxygen masks, before assisting others. In this metaphor, I hope to be the attendant who can guide you in applying your mask.

Finding the right therapist is no different than finding the perfect dentist, doctor, or other medical professional. In many ways, it may even be more important to you. Your therapist may know more about you than any other person in your life. I take this responsibility very seriously. I realize that you are trusting me with one of your most precious assets, your mental health. There have been times in my life that I have needed the assistance of a good therapist, and I understand how important it is to you.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
