We are all becoming. Becoming more confident, more weighed down by the stressors of life and our relationships, more independent, and more unsure of our identity or place in the world. And the most confusing part: all of those ‘becomings’ are happening at the same time. How are we able to celebrate the joys in our worlds while feeling tied to pressures that are both external to us and internal, hitting close to vulnerable wounds? Welcome to Becoming Therapy Services. By engaging in open and collaborative dialogue, we will use tools to help discover the stories that deserve a voice and parts of you that exist beyond the surface.

I have a true passion for helping people experience health and wellness in their relationships and in their lives overall. I believe that when our relationships are healthy, we create an environment that allows us to live more freely and more openly share ourselves with others. I understand the loneliness that develops when partners lose their close connection to each other and how frustrating it can be to have the same argument over and over again. I can help you understand your patterns, change them and create the type of relationships you've been longing for.

I believe that human beings have a level of resiliency that is truly amazing. At times, individuals can need some assistance with realizing this and being able to tap into their own strength. I am passionate about therapy because it allows a person to be in a safe space to develop insights and experience healing. The therapeutic process is one that should be open, trusting, and enlightening. My goal is to work side by side with clients to help them tap into their inner strength, in order to enhance their overall well-being.

I love working with clients who want a better understanding of the deep interior of their mental, physical, and spiritual function in relation to the world around them and the relationships they engage in. Using an eclectic and collaborative approach, the relationship I build with my clients is deeply rooted in the Humanistic tradition of treating others with unconditional positive regard. Paradoxically, many of our wounds are created in painful relationships that make us scared to trust other people, yet these wounds can only be healed within the context of relationship; therapy provides this opportunity.

I have 15 years of experience working with trauma, anxiety, depression, and interpersonal relationships. I believe everyone already has the wisdom inside to heal but sometimes layers of trauma or pain can make it difficult to do so and often causing symptoms such as anxiety and depression. I work with you to process traumas that can block the feeling of safety, content and happiness inside. I am trained in EMDR (an evidence based trauma therapy tool) that is used to process and heal traumas so that the system can rest and no longer has to fight to protect against the pain, fear, and emotions.

You can live a more rewarding life. I understand that most feelings, thoughts, and actions, no matter how troublesome or destructive, come from a place of trying to adapt or even just survive your current life situation.  I know that if you are struggling you most likely want better for yourself but may have difficulty making changes. I can help you to better understand patterns of thoughts and behaviors that leave you feeling stuck and then is then our work together to determine the best way to lead you to where you want to be.

I believe all psychological symptoms serve a function, such as regulating emotions, avoiding distress, or maintaining interpersonal connections. In therapy, we will identify the functions of your symptoms and find healthier ways for you to meet your needs. This often involves exploring the interpersonal contexts in which your symptoms developed and are maintained. In this way, we will identify what's getting you stuck and make way for you to have new emotional and interpersonal experiences. My therapeutic style is collaborative, warm, curious, and empathic.

I love working with LBGTQ+ and TGNC communities. I understand the unique challenges we face living in a society that sends us mixed messages about who we can or should be. I have worked with clients to navigate coming out at school, begin hormone therapy, work with difficult family dynamics and come to accept who they truly are. I also understand the importance of intersectionality and cultural humility in our communities and the impact minority stress has. My work is grounded in attachment theory and I prefer a holistic approach to a diagnostic one.

If you enjoy animals, nature or people, you already have a powerful foundation to create stability and momentum in your life. What you might struggle with isn't a label. It's an experience. Start where you're at, and explore it with somebody who will start there with you. Need change or just greater balance? Want more out of life? On a journey, but somehow lost? Feeling stuck, apathetic, burnt out or anxious is not uncommon! However, the tools and how to use them are not always obvious. Animal assisted, experiential, mindfulness and nature-based therapies are most clients' favorite tools.

You have the power to heal, be free, live authentically, and lead a life full of love and unapologetic joy. Every obstacle you face is an opportunity towards that potential. Many of us expect to find the solution to our problems, our grief, and our dysfunctional relationships through the advice of a therapist. But the truth is the answers you seek are already within you. My role is to serve as a guide on your hero’s journey. I work with individuals, couples, and groups to develop an intimate trust to lean into what’s there and uncover the potential for healing and growth. Your power comes with how you relate to life.

I am a white neurodivergent nonbinary trans woman interested in supporting adults navigating life changes of all kinds, with specific attention to collaboration with trans, nonbinary, and (neuro)queer individuals. My hope would be to identify and to build on clients' existing strengths and skills to foster increased confidence, values-based problem solving, and affirming connections in relationships. I defer to practices that root therapy in each client's lived experience and that challenge the ways we often reduce suffering and distress to individual questions of functioning, resilience, and exploitability. I am COVID conscious.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Denver?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
