As a play therapist and family therapist, I believe that healing is a family affair, and, I include parents as an integral part of their child's therapy. I specialize in trauma, attachment, adoption, blended families, difficult and severe behaviors, as well as parenting, and issues stemming from any and all of the above. I love working with children and their parents and families. Children seem to have an innate sense of what is going on and what needs to happen in order for healing to occur, and, when they are able to express that and be heard, the whole family can shift and change.
Young children communicate differently from adults. They communicate energetically and through their play. For them, toys are words and play is language. I am fluent in the language of play. I encourage parents to learn this language, to reach greater awareness of what is being said, and to hear it knowing that change is possible.
I find oftentimes that the focus of therapy can shift from the child to a parent or to both parents. A colleague of mine describes kids as ‘issue seeking missiles!’ I offer individual therapy sessions as well as couples therapy sessions, to facilitate greater connection to self and to others, and, to assist in moving to non-judgmental and kinder space.
