We all long for and need connection, I believe relationships are transformative and help us make meaning of who we are and how we want to show up in the world. Many of us long for connection and yet find it difficult to achieve that. My approach considers attachment and culture. I want to help cultivate a better understanding of emotional needs, exploring how early childhood relationships and experiences shape attachment patterns and influence our behaviors and perceptions in our current relationships.

I view our life journey as a collection of experiences that influence who we are and how we see the world. We often experience (and can expect) to deal with hurdles and roadblocks that can make some days unbearable. This is where counseling comes in. I love joining alongside others and empowering them to keep making steps when they don’t think they can. I will always admit to any client that counseling is hard and applaud anyone who takes the step to reflect inward and grow. My hope and main priority are to create a space where ALL individuals feel safe enough to be their authentic selves.

As a mental health practitioner, my deepest commitment is to honor each person as the true expert of their own life. As an Afro-Caribbean clinician, I intimately understand the pain of having our histories and stories invalidated or erased. This lived experience drives my passion for providing care where clients feel deeply understood—without the exhausting burden of educating their therapist about fundamental aspects of their identity. Research confirms what many marginalized communities already know: When clients perceive their therapist as trustworthy, they experience 40% faster symptom reduction (Del Re et al., 2012).

I work best with clients who are looking for an informal, supportive setting where they can learn skills that help them manage their lives more effectively, whether the problem is big feelings, a disconnect in relationships with those close to you, ADHD symptoms, trouble with boundaries and assertiveness, or anger and controlling behavior--anything that makes you feel like you've somehow gotten away from the person you'd like to be.

Are you the one who's always holding it together? The "strong" one? Maybe you're sensitive as hell, but you've been taught to shove that down. Or maybe you've spent your whole life thinking that showing emotion is a weakness. Let me tell you, it’s not. Life’s tough, and striving for perfection is like chasing a ghost—it’s exhausting and never-ending. Overthinking? Yeah, that's just another trap keeping you stuck. It’s time to tear down the walls you've built to protect yourself. Vulnerability isn’t a weakness; it's where your real strength lies.

You're not sure why, but the people you love most: your kids, spouse, mother/father/siblings-have turned into triggers that bring out the worst in you. Despite your love for them, you find yourself acting in ways you swore you never would. You're yelling at your kids, always angry at your partner, and you feel like you're always failing. In short, you're hurting the people you love most. You want to show up for your loved ones with peace rather than chaos and stress. You want to ditch the feelings of not being enough.

Are you struggling to get through the day? Maybe you find yourself feeling triggered, going through repetitive negative cycles, relational issues, trauma, identity, questioning faith, and/or facing anxiety and depression. Do you feel stuck or stagnant? Maybe you're an adult, teen, or pre-teen member of a family system who struggles with family dynamics. All these things may cause you to feel angry or hopelessly ask how I got into this rut. When we are taught to not deal with our struggles and keep our business in the home shame, emotional damage, and relational difficulties often follow.

You were born to be real, not to be perfect. Many of us struggle to express our authentic selves. This can cause stress, frustration, and emotional dysregulation. It is often a learned process to abandon parts of ourselves, in order to meet the needs or expectations of others. In my approach to counseling I aim to create an empathetic, non-judgmental space for my clients to learn and safely express their true selves.

You don’t have to stay stuck in survival mode. If your past is showing up in the present—through anxiety, self-doubt, strained relationships, or feeling disconnected from yourself—I can help, but therapy isn’t just about “coping” It’s about real change. I help people find safety in their own minds and bodies first—because without that foundation, healing feels impossible. Using EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Narrative Therapy, we’ll work together to shift patterns that no longer serve you. This isn’t just about talking through the past—it’s about understanding how it shaped you and rewiring what no longer fits.

Over the course of my career, I have worked with various populations of adolescent, teen, and adult clients in the mental health field. I can honestly say that I love what I do and always find a unique way to connect with each client. I believe it is important to view each person who I meet with an intersectional and unbiased lens and to construct a treatment plan and therapy style for each client that is in line with not just their specific mental health needs, but their personality, sense of humor, and personal values.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
