I am a Marriage and Family Therapist that has been in practice for 43 years and in that time I have developed an eclectic approach to working with many issues. I consider myself flexible and accommodating as it pertains to the individual needs of my clients because I work within their system of values and beliefs. I offer Individual, couple, marital and family sessions. As a Registered Play Therapist, I provide a Prescriptive Approach to working with 3-12 year old clients. I have a working knowledge of many different mental health issues but I am more likely than not to refer someone with a Drug and Alcohol Addiction to a colleague.

Hate to break it to you, but rewatching The Office to dodge your trauma isn’t a long-term strategy. You use the jokes as armor, you hide in the familiar scenes because they feel safer than your own thoughts, and you let the funny humor drown out the stuff you don’t want to face. You keep telling yourself you’re fine, you’re coping, you’re making it through. But you deserve more than getting by in reruns. You deserve healing that gives you a life you don’t have to escape from. You just want to feel like a real person, like all the other humans who annoyingly look put together from the outside.

I'm here for the misfits, the folks who have ever been told they’re “too much,” “too broken,” or “unhelpable.” (Spoiler alert: You are so not.) I use a bottom-up approach to healing. That means we’ll start with building safety, learning skills for nervous system regulation, and the real-life stuff that affects how you feel day-to-day. For those who feel things deeply, have urges to self-harm, experience suicidal ideation, or have been diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, you are not alone. If traditional therapy has felt cold, clinical, or just off, let’s do this differently and work together to reclaim your story.

I use a collaborative approach in which we work together to establish goals, make a plan for treatment, and continue to partner together in the process of counseling. I ask you to be responsible for whatever content you want to talk about at any given time, and I focus on the way we discuss your concerns so that it helps to build a trusting relationship so you can express your true feelings, find solutions for dealing with stressors, learn more about yourself, and get symptom relief.

You are looking for someone who can help during your time of struggle. You are being dismissed by everyone around you, no one is listening, and because of your struggles and past betrayals, you are unsure who to turn to. You are tired of the roller coaster of emotions running your life and you either vent them in anger or suppress them and bottle them up - only leading to more isolation. You are also tired of the constant turmoil that seems to surround you and you are looking for a therapist who isn't caught up in the fray of cultural anger, rage, and in-your-face beliefs. You need a calm, compassionate, and confident presence.

Couples often struggle to navigate challenging situations and differences. It's easy to feel alone, isolated, hurt, betrayed, and frustrated during these times. Despite these challenges, it's normal for partners to also desire resolutions, relief, growth, and connection with each other.

With 23 years of experience in many many different counseling settings, I have curated my craft as a therapist. While I have had experience dealing with acute psychiatric disorders and substance abuse, my favorite population to work with is individuals seeking personal growth emotionally and spiritually. I have studied theology most of my adult life alongside psychology, and I’ve learned to integrate the two in ways that are more fruitful than either one alone.

I help people rebound from difficult situations and reclaim purpose, meaning and pleasure in their life. I help them resolve their inner conflicts so that they may gain psychological freedom and enjoy all of what life has to offer them. Resolving inner conflicts removes barriers to relationships that form the basis for a coherent personal identity, relationship intimacy, and success in business and personal life. By using what happens in the therapy relationship, we can encounter, examine, and master the unconscious fears and beliefs that produce the debilitating problems which profoundly affect our lives, and thwart our goals.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
