It can be hard to ask for help, and I often hear people say that they do not want to burden anyone with their struggles. You may say to yourself, "Everyone has their own problems," but even if that is true, it doesn't make you any less deserving of a helping hand. As a therapist, I strive to create an environment of safety, authenticity, and compassion in which to meet each client wherever they are in life.

I don't believe there is an "ideal" client. I believe clients are people, like all of us, who sometimes need some help to move forward in life. They want to feel better. They want life to make sense. I can help by meeting you where you are. No matter what you're feeling or dealing with it's going to be okay. I want you to have emotional safety with me and be able to share what you need to in order to lift that weight off of you. The heaviness that makes us so tired. I understand depression/anxiety because I have experienced it myself so "I get it". What helped me is what I use to help you.

Raising children is not always an easy task. Your child might not always be like the average. Every child and family have their own unique journey! That is something they don't always teach when growing up. Our lives have struggles and tribulations. I would love to help assist your family into navigating those.

Are you feeling overwhelmed, disconnected or stuck during the transition to parenthood or in your relationship? I work with men, women and couples navigating identity shifts, communication struggles, anxiety, emotional overwhelm, and relationship stress. Maybe becoming a parent has left you feeling unlike yourself. Maybe the transition into parenthood has created distance between you and your partner, with the same arguments, miscommunication or quiet disconnection. Or maybe you’ve been carrying more than you let on. Or maybe you feel like you keep getting in your own way.

If you're constantly overthinking, reacting more strongly than you want to, or feeling stuck in patterns that you cannot seem to break, regardless of how many years have passed, you are not alone. To the world, you maybe functioning well, but internally it can feel exhausting, confusing or out of control. I help adults work through the lasting effects of trauma so those reactions stop running the show. Many of my clients are extremely high-functioning and they manage careers, relationships and responsibilities, but still struggle with anxiety, emotional triggers, or patterns that don't make sense.

Welcome! Let’s be real - life can feel incredibly tricky sometimes. If you feel that things aren’t quite right and are considering therapy, you’re in the right place! Often the hardest part is acknowledging that change is possible, and that a bit of help might be necessary to get where you want to be. I consider my role as a counselor to be one of the most sacred parts of my life. There is an inherent beauty found in walking alongside people in search for safety, purpose, and healing.

Do you feel lost, or like you don't belong? Do you feel different from those around you? Has socialization become a draining performance? Maybe you know what the mask is covering up, or maybe you just know you have to pretend to be ‘happy’ or ‘normal.' Do you have a loved one that is struggling? Maybe you are struggling to understand their experience. What if you knew you weren’t alone? I believe I can help you. We can work on the things that are making you feel overwhelmed now, as we work towards long term change.

You’re the person others rely on. You manage a great deal while carrying more than most people realize. On the surface, you have it all together, but underneath, you're exhausted from holding it all and trying to get everything "just right." Therapy offers a space where you no longer have to carry it alone. Together, we'll explore the patterns beneath the struggle, make sense of the experiences that led you here, and develop practical tools that help you feel more grounded, more connected to yourself, and more at ease.

My passion is helping families thrive. I want to help adoptive families and people who are caring for aging parents. I know the frustration of raising a child with attachment injury and being part of the sandwich generation where you take care of a struggling child and elderly parents at the same time. I know what it is like to feel loss and isolation when your heart is ripped apart by death or divorce. I also know what it is like to have your support system drop you because you no longer fit in. I want to help you find ways to hang on to precious memories and still move forward with life.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
