I am a nationally certified licensed professional counselor. I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, including but not limited to CBT, CPT, DBT, and SFBT. I consider myself an ethical, but not professional, laid-back therapist. I like to tailor my approach to the person's needs since everyone is different. I try to keep an open mind and will work along your side to find the solution. I mainly utilize CBT in my sessions.

Do you feel alienated, alone, & misunderstood? Caught in a cycle of escape, control, and avoidance? You judge yourself at every turn, can’t meet your own expectations and don't seem to trust yourself? You feel like you're not good enough and scared you can't feel anything but alone. You sacrifice parts of yourself to feel worthy of love. Overwhelmed by shame and guilt about who you are and what you’ve experienced. You try to find peace by avoiding life. Control has become the problem, not the solution. I'm here to help you discover a new way to feel, heal & deal. You no longer need to feel alone in the face of overwhelming emotions.

I'm Karen Fry, LCSW. I’ve been a therapist for a long time (18 years) and I love what I do. I graduated with a Master of Social Work degree from UALR in 2006. I see my profession as a calling. One of my greatest joys is working with someone who begins to see that they have the power to change their life and find healing. The theories and skills that we practice can lead to healing and change. I know because I’ve learned to practice the skills and theories in my own life. I live in Little Rock and enjoy spending time with my two adult kids. I enjoy walking/hiking and bicycling on the Arkansas River Trail.

I can think of no greater responsibility than keeping someone’s secrets or any greater joy than holding someone’s hand while they do the difficult work of changing their lives. In my time working with trauma, I have found it is common for people to question if they are "crazy" or if something is "wrong" with them. More often than not, the answer is "no." No, you are not crazy. No, something is not wrong with you. Rather, your body has adapted to traumas and perceived threats in ways that have helped you survive over time. To quote Mary Harvey, “trauma survivors have symptoms instead of memories.” When we feel tense or angry and on edge with symptoms like panic, dizziness, or shutting down, that is trauma in the driver’s seat. When trauma is front and center, we don’t feel in control.

Are you a person who finds yourself caring deeply for others while you struggle to care about yourself? Maybe there's a frequent thought that you're not enough and you're always fearful that you are a burden to others. Do you avoid making decisions or taking risks because you fear that you’ll fail? You think even when something is a success that it is only a matter of time before it all falls apart. Do you struggle to believe that it’s possible to feel good about yourself? Do you want to feel that you are valued and have worth that allows you to establish the life that you imagine for yourself?
