As a therapist, I focus on facilitating a space of comfort and safety for individuals facing marginalization, oppression, racial trauma, intergenerational trauma, religious trauma, and attachment related issues. Trauma can result from many different lived experiences though commonly misunderstood as solely a result of war, violence, accidents, etc. It can show up in your life in various ways such as anxiety, perfectionism, people pleasing, feeling stuck/unmotivated, dissociation, shame, relational issues, etc. It can be overwhelming and exhausting to feel like you’ve tried so hard to heal and still feel like something is missing.

You’ve been through a lot—maybe more than you’ve ever shared out loud. You or your child are anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in painful patterns that won’t seem to break. You're exhausted from trying to hold it all together. You want to heal from the past, feel more connected in your relationships, and finally experience peace in your everyday life.

In my time working with trauma, I have found it is common for people to question if they are "crazy" or if something is "wrong" with them. More often than not, the answer is "no." No, you are not crazy. No, something is not wrong with you. Rather, your body has adapted to traumas and perceived threats in ways that have helped you survive over time. To quote Mary Harvey, “trauma survivors have symptoms instead of memories.” When we feel tense or angry and on edge with symptoms like panic, dizziness, or shutting down, that is trauma in the driver’s seat. When trauma is front and center, we don’t feel in control.

F. Bea Wallace, MS LPC. I use CBT and person-centered therapy techniques. I use motivational interviewing. I listen actively and offer empathy and compassion while helping the client learn to make better choices. For children, I sometimes use CBT techniques in a more playful, and engaging manner. When using Person-centered therapy with children I attempt to create a safe space for them to express themselves. When working with adults, I tend to delve more deeply into cognitive and emotional processes with CBT, this technique helps adults challenge and reframe their thoughts.
