I believe that being a human is both inherently hard and beautiful. All of the challenges that we face are moments that allow us to grow and change to maximize our experience. I see the therapy space as one that helps us move through these moments and create the lives that we want to be living. I recognize that we are all the experts of our own stories, and I hope to co-create a space with you that feels most authentic and safe for you to process through any hardships you have been through. I look forward to starting this healing journey with you!

Art Therapy has been shown to help manage stress, heal from illness or injury, improve quality of life, increase cognitive flexibility and problem solving, and improve emotional well-being. But that's not why people call me, it's nothing so complicated. Often people who seek therapy are just tired of feeling bad. You can feel so much better, and I'd like to help you.

Welcome! I'm so glad you landed on my page. I am a strengths-based, client-centered, expressive arts therapist who sees teens and adults working through anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief/loss, relationship issues, identity questions, & trauma. The first thing I'll do when we meet is listen. I want to hear your story, in the way that you tell it. Together, we'll explore the parts of your story that are working for you, and the parts you want to shift; the parts of your story that are in your control, and those that are not. I will act as guide and witness to the work you do to move towards the life you want and deserve.

I now only work online through Skype. I have worked with a variety of issues over my 30 years in my profession. I have been an Adjunct Instructor in the UN-O Graduate Counseling Department, Consultant to area psychiatric programs, Director of Outpatient programs, and a presenter to a wide range of businesses as well as my outpatient practice. I like the diversity of my practice in terms of diagnostic features rather than a particular specialty. My many years of practice have allowed me to work with such a wide range of circumstances and issues.

This field is where I'm meant to be. Addiction tied to trauma is a passion of mine as it has affected my family and those I love. Getting to the pain attached to that trauma and finding healthier ways to address and process that pain is important and not something that is a "one size fits all." Using compassion, respect, and acceptance, I am able to assist those struggling and help them find a better way of living.

I am flexible to accommodate most schedules. I believe everyone can benefit from therapy; at its core, therapy is about building a relationship in which we feel safe to embrace and become our authentic selves. I enjoy working with people to explore life experiences and identify past trauma that may be preventing them from living their best life. I am passionate about issues surrounding individual freedoms, specifically relating to gender/sexuality. As a queer professional, I enjoy working with clients who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or who practice nontraditional relationships, including polyamory and kink.

Every human being experiences difficult moments in life. Those who choose therapy are better able to navigate these times and see change they desire. I enjoy helping individuals achieve their goals. These goals include overcoming depression, anxiety, or anger; acheiving stabilizing peace to ongoing family conflict; or successfully navigating a major life transition. I've spent more than a decade helping adults, parents, teenagers, children, and families with their unique situations.

Experienced in Play Therapy and Trauma Therapy. Do you or your child experience confusing emotions or behaviors? Do you struggle to express yourself or understand others? Have you been through trauma or stressors that altered the way you see life all together? Sometimes we know what's wrong but haven’t found lasting change. The weight of these challenges affects our relationships, functioning, physical health, and overall sense of wellbeing. I understand it can feel impossible to take action when life feels so heavy.

Modern life is stressful. We often feel like we don't have enough time, enough money, enough energy, or enough confidence in ourselves. We spend too much time feeling anxious or depleted. There is an alternative to the constant, unrelenting treadmill and chaos. There is another way of being present in your life and available to those you love. I practice Mindfulness-Based Psychology and Mindful Self-Compassion. By learning these skills, you can begin to slow down, befriend yourself, and make choices that reflect and further your values and dreams, rather than those imposed on you.

“What the hell am I doing wrong?!” Parents, how many of you have asked yourself that? I’ll bet, at some point, we all have. You get to your wits end with this adorable little creature that you love with all your heart. How is it that you can get so angry, and dare I say, feel hatred toward them all at the same time? Rest assured, you are not alone. Parenting is one of the hardest, thankless jobs at many points in a child’s development. You work so hard to protect them from the dangers of the world, to guide them into being a good person, and love them through all of their struggles as they move through each developmental milestone.

Is pain from the past inhibiting you from living the life you envisioned for yourself? Does it feel like you've been through so much that it's hard to even conceive of such an "envisioning?" Save that stuff for once you're out of survival mode, right? The fact is, trauma alone is not uncommon- it's part of being a human being. But for some of us, these traumas have been so severe that we can struggle to bounce back, feeling adrift and alone. Like journeying across the ocean when a storm cracks your mast, emotional trauma can leave us feeling lost, confused, and even desperate without a sail. How do we get back to dry land?

Your journey is important and the role you play in it, even more so. Perhaps you’re considering support for your relationship (romantic or platonic). Maybe you wish to explore your identity more deeply. Or maybe you aspire to embark on personal areas of growth because of challenges of past trauma, current anxieties, or other parts that need explored. No matter your path, how you show up along your journey is impactful. Through collaboration, we can work on exploring the possibilities before you, with the resources you innately possess.

The clients I work best with are – and stop me if you’ve heard this before -the people who want to be there. I am totally willing to build rapport and trust but would rather we not exhaust ourselves by trying to break down walls intended to keep me at arm’s length. I work hard at not wasting time because I know it’s important for clients to start feeling improvement as soon as possible. Therapy is hard work, where we will delve into vulnerable, personal topics that aren’t fun or easy. When clients want to be there and do the work, this is where I work best. Find more about me on my website listed to the side!

I firmly believe my role as a counselor is to listen to, support, and empower individuals. We live in a world that likes to generalize and place us into categories without taking our individual stories into consideration. Having worked in the child welfare system for almost a decade, I saw how the lack of meeting individual needs can negatively impact a person. I believe if counselor and client work together, we can make sense of your individual story and embark on a path towards wholeness. The hardest work is done by the client and I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey.

My ideal client is an individual or couple navigating the weight of trauma, infidelity, anxiety, depression, or a deep loss of meaning. They may feel stuck or disconnected—longing for healing, trust, and clarity in their life or relationships. As a client-centered therapist with a psychodynamic approach, I create a space where we can gently explore what hurts, uncover what’s been buried, and begin to rebuild from within. Together, we work toward restoring purpose, deepening self-understanding, and finding peace—not just as a concept, but as a lived experience in your everyday life and relationships.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 68132?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
