As a therapist and human being, I believe in the power of counseling and its success at different times in one's life, whether for the purpose of personal growth or to address more serious mental health concerns or problematic behaviors. As a foundation to the counseling relationship, I help clients and families understand the process of therapy and that all people, children and adults, grow and heal on their own time. I believe that by providing a safe and supportive environment, clients are able to make positive, lasting change.

I know how challenging it can be to reach out and start the process of therapy. I enjoy working with clients who experience a variety of needs from their therapist. This includes processing traumas, minimizing depressive symptoms, more effectively managing symptoms of anxiety, and more! It is important to come into a counseling setting with an open mind, and to remember that therapy is a very vulnerable process. Developing trust within a counseling relationship is an important foundation to reaching your goals in the counseling setting.

Beginning the process of counseling can be a very different type of experience. Allowing oneself to be vulnerable enough to discuss personal and sometimes traumatic topics about one’s life is not always an easy task. As someone who has been in counseling, myself, I understand how difficult it can be to take that first step. This is why I became a counselor. I understand that faith can be an important part of one’s life and am able to integrate concepts of faith into counseling, based on each individual’s preference. I also realize that some wish to focus solely on therapeutic concepts and want to engage you where you are.

Do your emotions hit at full volume while everyone else seems set to a whisper — and by the time the wave passes, you're left exhausted, ashamed, and afraid of what you said or did? If you've been called "too much," or believed it about yourself, you are not broken or alone. The whirlwinds, the isolation, the battles with shame and guilt, the distancing from the people you need most — these are the patterns I help clients untangle. If you're searching for control and stability, I'm here to help. With empathy and compassion, I work alongside clients to identify the root causes of these struggles, steady the storm & find peace.

So…you’re looking for a therapist. Maybe this wasn’t exactly how you pictured your day going. Maybe you’ve been handling things on your own, feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or thinking about a change. I’m not here to sit quietly while you talk for 50 minutes and nod thoughtfully, unless that is what you want. We work together. I bring clinical experience, tools, honesty, and perspective; you bring the expertise of knowing yourself. Together, we figure out what actually works—and yes, we’re allowed to laugh along the way.

My ideal clients are the women and children who’ve been told you're "too sensitive” for as long as they can remember. If you're a woman holding it together for days of work or school and melting down in overwhelm on the way home, or a parent to a boy who is “really a good kid but just loses it sometimes," I want to hear from you. I tend to work best with clients who describe themselves as big feelers, perfectionists, and control-freaks, and who are ready to try anything to start making life less painful. Maybe you have, or suspect, neurodivergence, or maybe life's transitions are leaving you feeling vulnerable.

Hello! I know sometimes the most difficult part of beginning the counseling process is finding a caring and compassionate counselor with whom you can connect. Look no further. Stressors such as financial worries, family, relationship, or work concerns, and chronic pain or illness are just a few struggles that may change behavior and mood. I strive to create a warm, helpful, non-judgmental environment in which you will feel safe, supported, and heard.

My grandfather used to tell me: “Write your life in pencil for it will surely change”. While we can be certain that our life and circumstances will change throughout life, what we can rely on is our ability to adapt. I view counseling as an opportunity to help you figure out how to adapt to the curveballs life throws at us. I can help you learn new coping skills, gain a fresh perspective, or provide a listening ear, I believe that you too can adapt. I have experience in areas such as depression, anxiety, adjustment, oncology, chronic illness, and grief and loss.

The discovery of a partner’s compulsive sexual behaviors-infidelity or porn use can be devastating! Most partners are shocked, horrified, confused, sad or full of rage. They experience hyper-vigilance, intrusive thoughts, emotional numbness, or a loss of self-trust. Some add insult to injury by saying invalidating things, like you’re overreacting or too sensitive, or worse yet blame you for not having sex enough with them. This leads to an unbearable isolation. I specialize in helping Betrayed Partners of sex addicts heal from the heartbreaking impact of the secrecy, chronic deception, manipulation, & broken trust of sex addiction.

Do you feel lost, confused, and totally disgruntled as the world feels like it is passing you by but you’re holding all of the strings together. Getting to this point has taken a lot of you, maybe even feeling like its taken all of you. You have used so much courage, perseverance, and resilience to get to this point. This is the place where it stops. This is where you find what you have been looking for: the support, the encouragement, the ear to listen, the shoulder to cry. This is the space where you feel safe to be able to be the most vulnerable that you have ever been.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
