Are you feeling overwhelmed by anxiety or depression? Have you recently gone through a major life change like a divorce, the loss of a loved one, or a chronic illness diagnosis, and find yourself struggling to cope? Maybe you're carrying the weight of past trauma, or just trying to manage the stress of everyday life. These experiences can feel painful and isolating, especially when we haven't been taught how to navigate them. I believe that healing is possible when we have the right tools, support, and space to explore our inner strengths. My approach is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and a deep respect for each client’s journey

Life can present us with unexpected challenges—whether through trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, or significant life transitions. These experiences can leave individuals feeling isolated, overwhelmed, or disconnected. What is often overlooked, however, is that healing is not only possible but also permissible. We are allowed to heal and to cultivate balance, stability, and meaning in our lives. My role is to provide a supportive and collaborative environment in which you can explore your experiences, identify patterns, and develop strategies for growth and healing. I am here to assist you along that journey.

For some of us our internal dialogue with ourselves could be described as anything but kind. We can be critical, self-deprecating, or devaluing of our experience due to past traumas that have informed a part of who we are, shame or guilt associated with our identity, or fear of experiencing ourselves as selfish. At times we can be so angry with ourselves for feeling that we are trapped in a cycle of attempting to do enough for others to finally have permission to be ourselves. This anger can give way to burn out, isolation, depression, and resignation. It can feel impossible to break out of that space.

I help clients experience emotions without feeling controlled by them so clients can make decisions with more ease, be productive and enjoy life. Understanding how to live better in our bodies, helps us live better in our lives and relationships. Anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, attachment ruptures, mood disorders, relationship struggles, and generally just growing up, all impact our nervous system and our thoughts. Being human is hard, and sometimes we need extra support.

Scrolling through therapist profiles while trying to find the right fit for your child, teenager, or yourself can be overwhelming. I get it! I may not be the best fit for every client, but if you are looking for someone who has a strong ability to connect with young people, creates an environment where they feel at ease, heard, and valued, uses humor frequently, does not dictate your goals, but rather collaborates with you to overcome life challenges and discover your strengths, then I may be a good fit for you or your child.

Congratulations, you have made the first and most important step in helping yourself reach your goals. I believe psychotherapy is truly a process, one which the therapist can help guide a client to make the changes they need for positive change. My 15+ years of experience working with teens, young adults, adults and families allows for me to treat the whole person and not just the symptoms. As all clients have differing needs, it is crucial for you to find the right therapist, the one with whom you feel a comfort and who might best help you succeed.

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor based in Illinois. I have always had a genuine interest in people and the different ways we all try to make sense of ourselves and the world. The number one indicator for success in therapy is the therapeutic relationship. For me the most important thing is that those I work with feel safe, cared for, and understood.  I seek to provide a comfortable space for clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors without fear of judgment. My hope is that my clients gain greater awareness of who they are, what they want, and how to get there.

I consider myself to be a professional problem solver. When clients contact my office, I work with them to identify what is causing them distress if they do not already know and help them learn new coping strategies to deal more effectively with problems in the future. I treat each client's problems on an individual basis and believe in treating clients with respect. I know it is difficult to contact a professional with a problem which is causing distress and try to make the process a good experience. It is possible to live a happy life.

Clients often describe my approach as both straightforward and compassionate. I strive to create a supportive space where individuals feel heard, respected, and empowered to explore new perspectives. My work is rooted in the belief that therapy should not create dependency, but instead help clients develop the insight, skills, and confidence to care for themselves beyond our sessions. I focus on helping each person connect with their sense of agency, purpose, and identity—building resilience and encouraging authenticity in the process.

How can I find a therapist in 60174?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
