Want to be more authentic? As a gay man, I understand how difficult it can be to understand and feel confident in your identity. I bring that lived experience and empathy to my therapeutic work. Gender identity, sex and sexuality, relationships, body image and self-esteem, along with depression and anxiety that tangle with them, are things that I can help you work through. My goal is to help you be more kind to yourself, and to help you find your authentic self so you can live the life you want.

Our mission is to normalize mental health, reduce the stigma, strengthen the community, and help people reach their goals/dreams. We use your expertise on yourself, your strengths, and our knowledge about mental health to help you get what you want out of therapy. We are someone on the outside who can recognize patterns, challenge them when needed, offer ways to change that pattern, but we don't shame you if you don't want to, can't or are not ready. We understand that you need a connection, and aren't an "authority" figure. We acknowledge we are human too.

Are you having difficulty figuring out how to move on from a difficult or traumatic experience? Maybe you find yourself constantly thinking about it, or maybe the thoughts sneak up on you when you're not expecting them. You might find that it's negatively impacting your ability to function in certain areas of your life, like having difficulty maintaining a romantic relationship, being unsuccessful at work, or feeling physically unwell. Life can feel so heavy and unfulfilling when it seems like everyday you're just surviving. My goal is for therapy to be a place where you learn to thrive!

Struggling with sexuality can feel isolating, confusing, and painful. As a sex therapist, I’m passionate about helping others overcome barriers to sexual wellness. Finding pleasure after trauma or being given negative messages about sex can lead to difficulties accepting ones sexuality. Pain or dysfunction oftentimes lead to emotional distress. Having kinky desires, uncommon attractions, or engaging in non-monogamy can be isolating. Feeling out of control with our sexual behaviors is oftentimes difficult for the individual and others. I’m here to help you navigate these challenges and find wellbeing, self-acceptance, and pleasure.

I work with couples, families, and individual clients 13+, but welcome families with younger members, too. I welcome people from all religions, non-religions, cultures, and backgrounds. For fun, I like table-top board games, drawing, reading, and nature photography. In my free time, I can be found throwing a frisbee for Dashwood, a red British Labrador Retriever, at one of the area dog parks. He really loves to play with everybody.

You’re juggling a lot - relationships, parenting, work - while trying to remember who you are in the middle of it all. You hold it together for everyone else, but lately it has felt like too much. You want peace in your home, more laughter, to feel like yourself again. You’re tired of overthinking and snapping at the people you love. You’re ready for life to feel lighter, steadier, and more connected.

You may look like you’re managing on the outside, but inside you feel anxious, low, or emotionally drained. Depression, stress, past experiences, or life transitions may have left you feeling disconnected or stuck in patterns around mood or substance use that no longer feel helpful. You want to feel more balanced, present, and in control of your choices—not just coping, but making changes that last.

You can expect to learn techniques to reduce worry and stressors related to anxiety and depression. In therapy we can work together to address life transitions. Some examples include: college stressors, a change in career, a significant loss, or change in relationships. In therapy, we will use EMDR, CBT, and solution focused interventions to assist with reducing the impact trauma has on day to day functioning.

On the surface, you are successful: you are a professional, you earned your degree(s), you have “the job,” the friends… However, in the quiet moments of your life you cannot find peace; you are struggling with imposter syndrome or shaking something(s) that happened to you, or holding back in your relationships. You don’t know how to reach out or who to reach out to. You want to be seen, but you are afraid. Maybe you're a recent college graduate figuring out "adulting" or have experienced a lifetime of microaggressions due to your cultural or sexual identity. And you can't stop wondering if it really was as bad as you thought.

Life is challenging in our ever evolving world. I believe you can improve your mental health by tackling these challenges directly. Life transitions (grief, trauma, medical concerns, aging, retirement, divorce, parenthood, emerging adulthood, and employment,) are highly stressful. You don't need to navigate these alone. Many clients find my approach results in significant change in 3-4 months. I can help you find balance and meaning by examining your choices and values. Clients often tell me, “I’ve never thought about it that way before." I named my practice “Refreshing Perspectives” because that’s what you’ll find with me.

I work to meet my clients where they're at to help identify unwanted patterns & difficult emotions that can arise after experiencing high stress, anxiety, panic, shame, or trauma. If left unaddressed, this can impact our mental health through misconceptions of self, or internalized negative self-talk; reducing our chances for growth. At times we can feel an urgency for things to stay the same, to avoid uncomfortable feelings, or more disruptions; but then a vital part of the therapy process may go unchecked. Which can reduce or limit opportunities to build stronger connection with others, & to set healthy boundaries for ourselves.

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
