I evaluate children and teens who may have learning difficulties, problems focusing, general school problems, mood or anxiety-related concerns, or peer issues. These struggles could impact many aspects of their life and their ability to thrive in their environment. Even if you feel you know your child very well, sometimes it is unclear why they are having such a hard time. Parents who bring their children to my practice are seeking guidance for how to best understand their difficulties and for recommendations for how they can help their child succeed.

I AM NOT ACCEPTING NEW PATIENTS AT THIS TIME. I have 25+ years of working with pregnant & postpartum women struggling with mood issues, as well as people transitioning to different life stages, dealing with Anxiety, Depression, adjustments to chronic illness and family identity changes. Much of the work in therapy is about loss and how that affects one's sense of self. We work together to form a realistic plan for improving your life situation that brings about improvement in symptoms quickly.

I work with adult individuals, couples & non-monogamous relationships and treat relational & sexual health concerns: conflict & miscommunication, sexual functioning issues, sexual pain disorders, sexual dissatisfaction & desire discrepancy, anxiety & depressive disorders. Many patients I work with are LGBTQIA+ folks, those engaging in unconventional sexual behaviors (BDSM, kink, fetish, etc.) or practicing non-monogamy, and/or sex workers. My expertise is in stigma management & support for "sexual outsider" communities. I am licensed in Minnesota, Montana, & Iowa and treat therapy patients in these 3 states through video therapy.

Your self-defeating worry and ruminative thoughts are getting in the way of living a fulfilled life. You feel like you are stuck in an anxiety spiral that seems out of control and unmanageable; it impacts your sleep, health, work, and relationship with yourself and those around you. Maybe your intrusive thoughts and fears lead you to avoid or engage in repetitive behaviors. While this can help you feel better temporarily, it often leads to increased avoidance and anxiety in the long-term. If this sounds like you, let’s work together to get you unstuck from the anxiety cycles and learn to manage your intrusive thoughts.

I use an integrative, individualized approach with clients because I believe therapy is a journey based on trust, and should be a space that honors clients knowledge and personal needs. Therapy is more than just a place to vent, and I strive to help people create forward movement. My style is warm, candid, and when appropriate, fairly humorous. My own journey as a daughter, partner, and mother to a 14 and 9 year old informs my work deeply. I work hard to create a space where clients feel free of judgment.

People come into therapy because they want something to change in their lives--how they feel, how they relate to others, how they handle stress. I enjoy working with people who want to commit themselves to working in therapy; who have the courage to face the important issues; who want to work collaboratively with me to find the solutions to feeling better. I consider myself a guide and coach in this process as we get to know each other. It gives me great joy to watch my clients grow and change and start to enjoy life again.

The shame of not being in control of your life can feel so isolating and anxiety provoking. And the thought of talking about it with someone else can feel paralyzing at times. How did I get here? Why can't I fix this on my own? Why do I keep going back? What is wrong with me? Do I have a drinking problem? Why can't I sleep? Do I need to quit or can I just cut back? Why is my relationship so difficult? These nagging thoughts could go on and on.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
