I enjoy seeing a wide variety of clients as I am able to offer them some unique perspectives to improve and change their current situation. It is my hope that our work together will challenge you to grow in ways you imagined and in some you do not. I have been a pastor in the Lutheran church and that gives me some unique abilities to help you utilize your faith as a strength. Although faith is not a prerequisite to counseling, I offer faith based counseling for those who have spirituality as one of their resources. I also see the value of animals in the lives of my clients and we offer a pet friendly environment.

Hello. Thanks for visiting my page. I understand that looking for a therapist for yourself or someone you care for can be a process... I consider the role of being someone's therapist an honor. And with that, I understand that feeling comfortable to be vulnerable can take time. I have found that often times people with trauma, unhelpful narratives, and other pain that has become engrained in their sense of self need safety and time; and I am here for it. Most of my work has been supporting others who have experienced trauma, anxiety, body image/eating disorders, and are navigating the juvenile justice system.

“There are a lot of therapists out there! How do I find a good fit?” Good question. I have a somewhat different approach that I introduce in a short video. You can find it on my website: coreybusch.com (or there's a link on my profile). Here’s a summary of the video: "Many people reach out to me because they don’t want to do traditional talk therapy. They are looking to do a therapy method that will get to the root of the problem and lead to long-term change. Great, that’s exactly what I do."

Compassionate courage lives at the intersection of a supportive, safe environment and a willingness to kindly challenge yourself, and it is what I wish to provide for you. Actively questioning the ideas of “normalcy,” I work with you to unravel what assumptions you may have about yourself or the world around you. As we work together, I will help you contextualize our discoveries socially, developmentally, culturally, and biologically.

Is your child struggling and you don't know how best to help? Perhaps with school, with completing tasks, with friends, or with how they feel about themselves? I evaluate children and teens who present with a variety of difficulties. A neuropsychological evaluation can clarify the nature of your child's struggles and give you more guidance with how best to support them.

You may be looking through therapist profiles because something in your life is not feeling quite right or you have the sense that life can be better. I believe we all carry wisdom within us and a potential to change directions when the path we’re on is no longer working for us. I work with individual adults who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship and life transitions, grief and loss, and those recovering from traumatic experiences. My goal is to help you identify what is important to you, to look at patterns, to make sense of what’s not working (and also what is) and ultimately, to help you live a richer life.

We all feel stuck or anxious or hopeless sometimes, but when the feelings take over your life, you might have unresolved trauma. Trauma involves system overwhelm - something that was too much, too fast, or that happened when you were too young to cope. Left unaddressed, it undermines your sense of safety and wellbeing and hijacks your nervous system. Talk therapies address the story-telling mind, but we need to work with trauma where it lives: in the body, outside of conscious awareness. If you've tried traditional therapy and it only got you so far, this might be why.

The shame of not being in control of your life can feel so isolating and anxiety provoking. And the thought of talking about it with someone else can feel paralyzing at times. How did I get here? Why can't I fix this on my own? Why do I keep going back? What is wrong with me? Do I have a drinking problem? Why can't I sleep? Do I need to quit or can I just cut back? Why is my relationship so difficult? These nagging thoughts could go on and on.

Life presents inevitable challenges. Problems are problems. People are not problems. I will work alongside you to be curious and draw out your innate knowing and expertise. You share in my belief in the power of metaphor and meaning-making as a healing medium. This may include creative processes with art materials or it can be through "talk therapy" as well. We will work as collaborators to achieve greater self-awareness that allows you to move forward with confidence, less fear, self judgement and criticism.

Anxiety, sexual concerns, past traumas, self-doubt and unhelpful communication patterns can leave us feeling stuck. I help people remove the road blocks that keep them from having fulfilling connections with the people who matter most in their lives. I work with couples and individuals to heal from past wounds and to move forward with the skills to embrace the present moment. I enjoy working with people as they build the confidence to be more centered and present in their intimate relationships and more comfortable in their relationship with themselves.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
