This is not how it’s supposed to be. Tuning out the pain works some days. Others, it is relentless, overwhelming. It can hurt to blink. Thank goodness there’s work. the kids. the dog. They give a reason to get out of bed – avoid the guilt. No one understands. Going along with my boss or partner seems so simple at the time - until it turns sour. Irritability comes out of nowhere. Snap! Then crash! At least social distancing makes isolating more acceptable. It’s all so exhausting. Like having the gas pedal and the brake to the floor, at the same time. ‘Coping’ and ‘managing’ are a joke. Is relief too much to ask?!

Some people find themselves feeling stuck with certain thoughts and feelings. Others find themselves repeating behaviors that lead to unproductive and problematic situations in their life. Therapy is a process where these concerns can be discussed and worked through from a nonjudgmental standpoint. My therapeutic approach is to assist you in reaching your personal or relationship goals with more effective ways of being. The adolescents and adults I work with are understood as individuals that have their own unique attitudes, beliefs, and experiences.

The condition of our relationships are crucial for overall peace and contentment in our lives. As someone trained in marriage and family therapy, I focus on the space between you and your loved ones. Sometimes there are past histories of resentment, nonproductive communication styles or cognitive filters that are us causing problems. Sometimes our way of being in the world or the structure of our systems keep us stuck in problematic cycles and patterns. In our work together, we can increase self-awareness and create pathways to relational healing.

I focus on the unique challenges of those in high-pressure careers. The intensity of these jobs often leads to relationship problems, anxiety about performance, stress, exhaustion, and burnout, resulting in a shrinking support network and frustrated partners. That’s why I also focus on the families of such individuals.

The therapy process is personal in nature, therefore, I believe that it is very important for anyone who is seeking therapy find the right therapist for them. In my practice I rely on several theoretical approaches such as: interpersonal psychology, psychodynamics, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems. My eclectic approach develops a comprehensive and personal approach built on my premise: how we feel, think, and act is because of genetics, upbringing, and life experiences.

Living in this world can be hard, and we all need some help making sense of it from time to time. As a therapist, I hold a space full of humility, humor, and deep, genuine care as you explore your relationship with yourself and with those around you. Using a trauma-informed lens, I will walk beside you as you uncover insight, understanding, and resources that you have had all along. I have a passion for helping clients explore ways that we are impacted by oppressive systems and am LGBTQ+, nonmonogamy, and kind affirming. Above all, I will prioritize being authentic and fully present with you as our conversations unfold.

I am highly qualified with over 30 years experience as a therapist and I still love what I do. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the foundation needed for people to heal. Talk therapy alone is insufficient. My training includes advanced level EMDR, ART and Clinical Hypnosis. Clients are welcome record Clinical Hypnosis sessions on their phone to use between sessions. Clients I worked with years ago come back when they have the need. They trust me and know I can help them heal. Many of my clients are referred by current or former clients including the adult children of former clients.

I work with individuals, couples and families who are interested in improving the quality of their daily life. Often this works includes attention to anxiety and/or depression, relationship challenges, or life transitions. My work is thoughtfully designed for each client and situation. Some clients choose to work on one specific challenge at a time, on an as-needed basis. Others take a broader approach and explore themes that have challenged them over a long period of time.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
